Installing 220v garage heater

Hey everyone. I am finally moving away from propane and kerosene heaters. I found a great deal for this TPI F2F5107CA1L heater and I am picking it up tomorrow morning. $100 for 2 of them and my buddy is taking the other one. The guy said they work and are only a year old. The heater will likely cook me out of my well insulated 2 car garage. It's alright I can work in my underwear.

I am not the best at electrical so I want to make sure I get this right. The part that is messing me up is the phasing. It says it is 1/3 phase. I assume that means it can do both.

So correct me if I am wrong. I just had a new panel installed last year and I upgraded my service to 200 amp. Now obviously I need to install a new breaker, which it looks like a 40 amp double pole would be right. Based off of that I should run a 8-2 Romex wire from the panel to a box that will be right near the heater. Then a whip to the box to the heater. Am I right?

Since I am running a single phase will it run at 36.1 amps or 20.8 amps? If it's only running 20.8 amps, it would of course change the gauge wire and breaker.

Not an expert or electrician. But I have yet to electrocute myself.
3 phase is the 20.8 amps and the single phase 220 is the 36.8 amp

That heater is rated at 36.1 amps at 208vac single phase. Assuming you are in the US, and this is being installed at home, you have 240vac available. I would go to the TPI website and download the instruction manual, to see if they say it can be used at 240vac. Also, if it can be used at 240vac you probably need a 50 amp circuit.

Follow the diagram for single phase, likely just a jumper.

7000w @ 240v is about 29a, X 1.25 is 36a, so #8 wire, 40a breaker.

I'd run 8/3 romex to a disconnect, then from the disconnect a piece of liquidtight flex to the unit with x2 no 8 t90 and a bond. Keep the romex protected from mechanical damage

Thank you for the advice. I picked up the units and they look good. This thing is a beast. They have a thermostat wire coming out of it, so I plan to have a thermostat hooked up to it. I'll run 8-2 romex and a 40 amp double breaker.

My buddy picked up the other one today. I am excited to hook them up. I'll likely do it today or tomorrow. Can't beat $50. I was going to spend $260 for a 5k watt. This one has a 22' throw so I am curious to see how quick it heats the garage.

Read the above again. Your hooking a 208v heater to a 240v supply. Know what your doing!

Yeah I am holding off on installing it. I am going to go to the electrical supply company near me and see what they say. It is 208v single or 3 phase only, i will call the manufacturer to confirm. It looks like I can get a buck transformer, but not sure which one to get. The local supply company should be able to tell me. Hopefully it isn't really expensive or I will just sell the heater.
