I got one of the 30gal. compressors Lowes was discounting some months back, it's been sitting in the basement but is ready to be used.

I'll be wiring it for 220V use. I want to run a line from the basement out to the garage to run some air tools as well use it in the basement for small stuff, blowing dirt with a gun, pin nailer, etc. so I'll split it into two lines after the regulator.

It's about a 40ft run from where it's located out to where I want the outlet in the garage. I have a 50ft length of 3/8 PVC air hose that's too stiff to use while working so I thought perhaps I could use that for the run out to the garage, will that be OK or do I really need to got to black pipe? If I need black pipe do I need to put a tee with a drain in it?

I see some of you use a separator to take the water out of the air, where would that go?

Is there a primer on GJ on how to set up a compressor system? Like to do it right the first time.

thanks,

Rob

Personally, I would go with black iron. Sure, the 50 feet of air hose might work, but it's going to be a real pain if you ever puncture it.

I was just Googling air hose layout and saw an article that said most folks go with 1" Schedule 40 PVC pipe. Is that true, seems like it could shatter, especially in winter.

If you must run PVC go with schedule 80.

Don't use pvc for that reason!

Don't use PVC pipe of any type for any reason with compressed air...:deadhorse

My only concern with the 3/8 hose for that length is pressure/flow loss.

3/4" or 1" copper or black pipe is probably you best options, but if you got some bigger hose, and put a condensation drop made of pipe near the end you would probably be OK also. Part of it will depend on what you are using at the business end, and what the pressure/CFM requirements are...

This has been covered pretty well several times in the past few months, but I don't have those bookmarked...

OK, got it.

I have used the 50ft. 3/8 PVC hose in the past with no problems, with my C-Man 250G oiless so I thought it wouldn't be an issue with the bigger machine.

Where does the water separator go, at the end of the permanent run, before the coupler for the working end?
