I was going to turn this instrument bezel into a "vanity" light fixture for shop bathroom but need to know more about it. Anyone recognize it? I was thinking Pontiac because of the 4 point star but that is really just a wag. Let me know.

And Pec....you had better post pics of the project....sounds cool....another variation....use it as a shelf....the center could be the soap dish....side holes...tooth brushes....etc.....hell, you might be able to start a new fad......

'57 through '60 Ford truck.

Found a neat site when I got to thinking I'd screwed up...https://sites.google.com/site/identifyinginstrumentpanels/home

The hole on the right is something added or modified from the original. It is a 3-1/8" aircraft instrument hole cutout with the lower LH cutout for either a vertical speed indicator (not likely) or an altimeter (most likely). Those are generally the only two aircraft instruments that need the cutout at the 7:30 position.

ddawg16, interesting, I never thought of using it as a shelf.

I spent many, many miles in front of one of those in the early '70's

Dale B, we had a '56 Ford pick up but then my dad bought a '61 Falcon (Ranchero) I thought I had seen that star before but just couldn't place it. But I knew I would get it resolved here quickly.

Charles, you are correct as it being an aftermarket cut out. I will need to see if I can find an altimeter to fit the cut out. That would be totally cool, do you have a source for such altimeters?

post up as you work on it!

nine4gmc, here you go.

I went over to a neighbors who has a small ford boneyard and picked up this set of guages ...perfect fit.

Some taping, blasting, primer and paint.
Will have to get the rest of it done after work next week.

OK
Who is going to explain why someone would need an altimeter in a truck?

Actually you can't be a certified old fart without an altimiter and a compass in your truck, bonus points for a Frantz oil filter and deer whistles on the front bumper.
