Insulation on IC Rated Troffer

I am remodeling the interior of a 40' X 80' metal building. I have had a suspended ceiling installed with IC rated troffer lights. I am putting insulation on top of the ceiling tiles. I asked my contractor about installing insulation on top of the troffers. He checked with electrical supplier and said you could not put insulation on top of the light as it needs to be clear to disipate heat. I thought the IC (insulation contact) rating meant you could put insulation on top of the lights.

I have searched this forum and the internet and cannot find a definitive answer as to whether you can place insulation on top of a IC rated troffer or not. I am sure there are people on this forum that know the answer, and I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,
Allen

If it has an IC rating then any electrical inspector i've ever dealt with will allow insulation directly on it.

Can you post the make and model number of the light fixture? Then we can look up the spec sheet to see what it says.
