I have elected to finish the inside of my pole barn myself. The building will be built later this year but I am trying to gather all of the prices on Electrical, Insulation, and Interior wall finish.
Would love to see pics and hear about other options other than metal wall panels. Please shoot me your ideas! How did you finish your Garage on the inside?

On my 30x34x10 I have 5/8” rock on the ceiling and 1/2” plywood on the walls. 8’ sheets are much less than the 10’ers so the walls are basically 8 & 2 with a 1x4 horizon band at the seam. Painted the walls an of white and it has been excellent, especially when I need to get into the walls to add the things I forgot.

You might want to do the lower 8’ covered with OSB & rest of the walls & ceiling with rigid form insulation with a finish on one side which is specifically designed for. Wood is very expensive right now.

I used 5/8"rock on the walls, 1/2" on the ceiling really for fire proofing, but it's amazing how much tougher the walls are compared to 1/2".

Depends on what you plan on using it for.

Utilitarian - wood panels
Fancy utilitarian that you can throw your tools against it - diamondplate
House-ish feeling but you need to be careful with it - drywall

The cheapest right now is probably drywall as wood is completely through the roof and diamondplate is well...always very expensive.

5/8 rock on the walls, with 3' silver barn panels for wainscoting and white tin for the ceiling. Similar in all ways to the photo above, even the floors. Although mines not finished.

I get great ideas on this forum and I really like all of the pics. Gives me great ideas. In the process of completing a 30x30 garage attachment similar to this design.
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45347
I added a few other touches like a 8x4 opening towards our deck with a concrete bar top and garage door, and moved windows higher to keep my storage on walls.
I plan to do a bunch of metal work with welding, grinding, etc. and I know it creates a lot of metal dust.
I like the idea of the white metal roof. It would reflect the light so good. I assume its a little more expensive than sheetrock but it's probably something I could put in myself.
I like the idea of putting some type of wood on walls and the tongue and groove would hold up well I think.
Are there others who are doing similar garage work and can offer suggestions for interior.

I like this plywood idea, did you use any specific grade of plywood? Can I bother you for a picture of the finished wall? I have 12 foot walls so the horizontal band at the seam is cool but what about the vertical seam every 4 feet? Did you use 1 x 4’s for that too?

I scored 2k sq ft of 1x10 pine ship lap for $2k and will be doing my walls with it. Drywall with plaster for the ceiling. The picture below is the stair area, once it is insulated I'll continue that look all the way around.

White metal ceiling, 1/2" drywall on walls - excuse the mess...
Mess? what mess. The garage looks great. Would it be possible to provide where you purchased the metal roof panels? I am going to use 3/8" drywall on the walls & I want to use the metal panels to finish off the roof.

Sheet rock walls and ceiling, taped and textured.

I despise OSB!

Many comment that they can hang up items on the OSB easier, but I have no issues.

What ever you put up it needs to be white in the end to help the lighting. Plain unfinished wood walls typically **** the light right out of a space.

As you make comparisons don't forget the cost of primer and paint and labor (unless you DIY it) for sheetrock or some types of wood. They can make the cost of metal panels look a lot better. Also there is something really satisfying about taking 5 minutes to cover 2x12 ft of ceiling or wall. Toolchaser has nice idea of metal on the lower 4 ft of the walls. We ate in a BBQ place several months ago that did that. The metal was corrugated so they needed to cover the edge. They nailed a 1x1 to the wall and then a 1x2 that hung below the 1x1 so the metal was captured and the corrugated edge covered. Looked really nice I thought. Kind of a higher than usual chair rail that they painted a color that worked well w/ both the metal and the drywall above it.

This is the paint scheme I want to do in my smaller garage. Looks good!

All my walls are covered in "popcorn" right now... I've been wanting to cover it like some others have done, but keep going back and forth.

I went with white metal for the celing and below the "Belt line", everything else is painted drywall for some contrast.

Osb on ceiling and walls. Couldnt be happier. Easy to hand stuff on and the kids like bouncing basketballs and racket balls off the walls. If it was metal or drywall I would be having a stroke!

The first iteration of my shop had drywall (not shown in these pics). After the fire, and the expansion, I went with 3/4 plywood on the walls of the main workbay, and AG steel panel on all of the rest. The steel panel was cheaper than either of the other two, by a good margin.

I used OSB on the walls with old barn tin and used fence boards for aesthetics. My ceiling is R-19 insulation with Black skrim covering the insulation. Skrim is commonly used in large warehouses to cover ceilings, it is usually white or foil.

Hello again. I was able to revisit my posting here and reread all the great ideas and information you all have done with your interior builds. Life has been put on pause for the past couple years for the garage. The building was built and has been mostly just a storage and auto maintenance place for me. So now I am back on track with moving forward.
The ceiling is finished with metal and high bay LED’s(dimmable). Now I have started on the walls with tongue and groove osb around the corner tool bench and cabinets and shelving area. I will prime and paint them white for light reflection. Should I finish my topcoat with a latex paint for cleaning purposes? Any suggestions otherwise?

Just a few pics for my slow progress. It’s great to be out in the shop working away!
