Hey everyone!

I am new to this forum and was wondering if anyone has had any positive/negative experiences with International tool boxes? I purchased a Craftsman branded SHD(Super Heavy Duty) tool box from International tool boxes. It took over a month to ship then it came with almost every drawer handle bent and two large dings in the side of the boxes. The shipping cardboard was not damaged so it appears they packaged it knowing it was damaged.. I contacted their customer service department and asked if I could return it for a new undamaged box. They stated they did not have anymore boxes but I could return it for a refund. The catch was I had a cabinet in my new garage built to the specifications of this toolbox, so it would fit perfectly and not have any wasted space. The lady said they could give me a 15 percent refund if I would keep it and send me new plastic end caps for the drawers since almost all of them were broken off.
I did receive the refund but have never received my replacement end caps. I have contacted them via email and phone and they will not honor their commitment to replace the damaged caps. They will not return my emails or calls after the initial contact. This is the worst customer service I have ever delt with and would warn anyone from doing business with this company!!!

I'm pretty sure that's the one that uses sheet metal screws to hold the casters on; that's an immediate deal breaker for me.

If you haven't heard, SPG International is going out of business...assume you won't get any customer service ever again.

Let's not repeat things on the internet that you don't know are true - that's how rumours get started. The International SHD series does NOT use metal screws to hold its casters on - it uses 4x M8 bolts per caster. Here is a photo of mine from when I received it.

To the original poster, unfortunately International is in process of bankruptcy - it is unlikely you are going to get any satisfaction from them. I would suggest you either decide if you can live with it or get your money back from Sears.

Yeah you won't likely be finding a replacement. Slash and burn and start over w a new approach. Sorry

Wrong, the SHD was a pretty well built box .
Shame they gone bust, OP be unlikely source end caps .
I would of wanted a lot more back than 15% for that amount of damage .

With the bankruptcy I wonder if the employees are deliberately shipping inferior products. I have a international toolbox that I bought 4 years ago and its been a very good tool box.

I had two SHD boxes shipped to me around Christmas time (after they declared bankruptcy) through Home Depot Canada and they were super well packed and no deficiencies noted - just one data point.

bought 3 identical ones around mid Nov.
got 1 the other 2 were lost in shipment but showed as being delivered.
Looks like the one with label attached was banded together with other 2
and the bands came loose. I never could get a hold of anyone at shipping dept.
Filed a claim with my CC and had the other 2 resent.
All came in undamaged, that is when they finally got here after Christmas(2 were Christmas presents)

I have an International box I got through Costco that I really like and came in great condition. As others have said though, sadly they are going out of business.

I'd think it's much more likely you got a damaged one because they are down to selling off whatever they have left and might be done production. This is just a guess. But at the end of a production run you get flooded with all the rejected / returned stuff. The fact they said they dying have a replacement to give you would support that theory.

That seems much more plausible to me than employees damaging stuff just to cause trouble. Most employees are proud of what they do, and screwing over some customer isn't going to get them anywhere.

Thank you for all the replies! The two boxes I bought would have originally cost $4k. I bought them for 75% off from Sears so I am not going to find a deal like that again. They are very well built and weighed 432lbs dry, double caster drawers which are very smooth. The dents are on the sides which you can not see in the cabinet and the end caps are pretty much asthetic but I am crazy meticulous and would like things to be right when I get them. As for not receiving customer service as they go through bankruptcy.. dang I didn’t know they were going out of business. Thank you for the heads up!

Understood, but that is not the Super Heavy Duty model referenced in this thread, that is one of their cheap made in china boxes. All this to say, very different product at very different pricepoint!

Well at least you know now that it wasn't my intension to slander the box. I don't know much about International boxes, but I have a memory like an elephant and I remember that picture.

I bought a couple of the SHD boxes from Sears last year. One of the boxes was missing the wheels. Sears wouldn’t help - only said to ship it back which would have been difficult. I emailed the SPG International Customer Service – USA (look on their web site contacts page for address) and they shipped the wheels. That was in late December and the wheels arrived in January. They also have a toll free number. You still might be able to get the missing parts.
