I put up a brief intro here but this is where I'll cover the rehabilitation of my space.

Here it is in its current "getting better" state, I look forward to posting prettier pictures as I make progress.

Invent House: bike rack

Plans sketched up for a quick weekend project: a simple bike rack from 2x4s :)

This week I shifted most of the shop back over a foot, compressing the laundry / darts / chill area, but opening enough space (I hope) at the front to get the bikes out of the way.

Ok, I think I've got pictures worked out: Flickr has a nice little iPhone app, since that is my primary camera, it'll be easy to push them up and be able to grab links when I'm posting from my iPad.

Here's the first area I wanted to hit over the weekend:

The bikes in the first pic were really in the way and would fall over sometimes. We never use a lot of the stuff in the second; my son's almost 7, time for that stroller to stroll on outta my shop!

Here's the result (not to mention a half-dozen fewer black widows!):

My boy also had some work to do:

I told him that if we work together and get it all cleaned up, we could give away his toy bench and tools and build him a real bench and buy real tools; that was motivating!

Looks like I'm on the hook for a bench!

You can also see I hung up the broom and the dustpan set; paracord is my friend:

Still a lot to do!

Slow and steady wins the race, At least you have a bench to build now..

Yup! Laminated 2 x 3/4" plywood + 1/4" Masonite for the top with the boy this afternoon, and am drawing up details of the rest now.

A few years ago, I built a Basic Jeweler's Bench, I've learned a lot from it and this will be a significant revision. (It's going to be so much better, I'll probably replace mine at some point too!)

One challenge is that I want it to be disassemblable so I can replace the legs with taller ones every few years.
