iPod Nano 1st gen Replacement

I had one kicking around and saw some info w/ a link on the Hot Deals thread. I actually forgot about it until I found it in my tool box, the other day. I put in the request through apple, they sent a package to ship the worn-out Nano in and in three days time I have a brand new model sitting on my desk.

I guess, originally, they were sending out 1st generation replacements. When those ran out they were sending newer model Nanos until those ran out, etc.

Here's the link.

Yep, we scrounged 3 old Nanos from our kids and Apple ended up sending out the latest version. Pretty cool. Kids thought it was Christmas.

I would like to think this happened because Apple is such a great company, but in reality, I would bet this is tied to some sort of liability or legal action.

I guess they could've just offered some form of credit rather than replace it with another iPod. I'm like your kids, it's like Christmas! I don't even need another iPod but I'll take it! :D

My first gen nano was very poor quality compared to the newer generations. I have a new nano but would gladly give this one up for a new one.

The 1st gen had a class action suit I believe due to battery swelling and sometimes bursting into flames. Supposedly in peoples pockets as well. Hot pockets anyone :)

Maybe I can send my 4th gen in.

Brent, Thanks for the post. Had a Nano 1st gen and Apple replaced it with a 6th gen in 6 days from the time I registered to receiving the replacement.

If you registered and got the package in the mail to send yours back in, there's a time limit on how long they keep your work order open. If you just got an email announcing the recall, don't worry about it, just go to their site and fill out the form.

One thing to remember: Apple changed their charging protocol. Older nanos don't charge at the same voltage as the later replacements. For most, that isn't a big deal. However, if you are like me and have ipod adapters on you Pioneer head units, or an older device with an ipod dock, the new Nano won't charge on the old device. I decided to keep my 2G nano.

Doing this now!

Is there a limit on how many you have.. I have like 6 of these laying around.. any issues on doing that many you think.. or just wait to I get a new one and then proceed with the next one and continue to do that rather than do all of them at the same time.

Are they sending the same shape nanos or are they a differnet size? The ones I have are a thin rectangular ones...

Thanks,
-Nigel

Does anyone know how long it takes to get the box shipped to them?

It's been 6 days so far and I have no box from them.... check my request and it still says the same status nothing about them shipping me a box or a box that is in transit to me... unless the online site only shows when i ship the ipod to them and progress that way...etc.

I ordered 2 boxes like six months ago and completely forgot about them. They sent one box in like 2 days, the other took over a month.

I guess I should dig them out and send them in, I need a new door stop. :lol_hitti

Ok I received the package from apple with instructions on how to return the product Tuesday. I sent it off Tuesday and yesterday they sent me an email saying that the new one is on its way with a tracking number and model number. Awesome.

Wow I finally got an ipod from apple. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and found that they sent me a 6th generation ipod nano. It is actually really awesome and am very happy I sent it off. It has a radio and it clips on to you. It has a built in pedometer...

here is a pic of what I got.

I got my new Nano and it was replaced with the 6th gen model too. My only problem is how am I going to charge it without the dock?
