Nice table, thank you for taking the time to share. Every time I see someone posting images working with their mag drill it reminds me how bad I truly want one.

Thanks. Yeah, it's pretty hefty. Currently weighs in around 400/450 kgs (900/1000 lbs). I'll need the brother to wheel it out with me for paint as we have a hill outside the door. :)

I still have a few more parts to attach to it.
Including a shelf in the universal column to catch any dust/swarf/slag dropping between the slats.
Plus the rollers and that shelf.

Thanks for the support.
I don't know how I survived before I bought that one. It only goes up to 32mm but the biggest I've needed to go to has been 20mm so far.
It's like a knife through butter. :)

Picked up this beauty today for small money.
It's a Bessey 30cm high performance clamp

As I've discovered from here and Rob, you can never have too many clamps!!

Delighted with it.

Another one for scale. This is for you Rob! :)

Posted image in another forum but really happy with this guy.
A magnetic base for a vice. Super job for the table. Just twist the handle and it locks down.

So, while I was pondering more elements to do with this bench I decided to make a baby bench for a small shed I have at my place. The current table did its job perfectly. Delighted how it worked.

4a3fb43db331f37b6c458a59951dbfb3.jpg

The only thing I need to change is to put the back bracing bar in the middle. Then I can rotate the bench either way.
(In my haste I did this part wrong. Great thing about this process is I can grind away material and start again. [emoji3])

I have a receiver for a vice on one side and a dual reliever for a chop saw on the other.

This is the top that Rob helped me make.

From this:

There's Rob!!

So, just to finish off the mini thread in this thread of the second work bench.

I cut and rewelded the cross beam and built a shelf for the new toolbox. Perfectly strong for my needs.

Area for vice on my left. Chopsaw on my right. Delighted with it.

4fd826baae9b5ce655c71eee2033ff02.jpg

Lick of paint later.

1051e6856a989185f8671cb521fe7c94.jpg

Next step to install the toolbox.

Drop the table top onto it.

Install the receiver tubes for the chopsaw and the vice.

I'll hopefully get a chance to go back to the main bench next and work out the roller part and the chopsaw swivel. [emoji106]

This is the main bench at the moment. Wheeled it out of the shed for a few pics.
Almost killed myself trying to push it. [emoji12]

So, I finished the second bench. The wood top one.

It was tough to get it into the boot of the car by myself. I had the brother help me take it out. [emoji106]

This is how I held it down.
I bought a selection to choose from. Went with the biggest carriage screws.

Delighted with it. It's almost good enough to have eat my dinner there.

Now, back to the main bench next. [emoji12][emoji12]

Hope ye like the look of it. [emoji3]

Oh yeah, must do this with the wood top bench next.

Got a chance to do a few bit today on the bench. Just working on the receiver for the new bench. This can be used on both benches.

Bolted down. Must weld it up tomorrow.

I'll probably round out the edges to match the vice when it's welded up.
If I had a plasma cutter it would be done already. [emoji12] (Someday)

Great build. Your table is amazing.

I agree, cant have too many clamps, especially Bessey lever clamps. No shop should be without them, hah.

How did you hold/bond the 2x4s together for the table top?

What are your thoughts about the evolution chop saw?

Love the dogs, hah.

Hi sqznby,

Between buying more vices than I actually need and searching for Bessey clamps at discount rates (cost a fortune here) the garage journal has help release the inner collected in me. [emoji12]

Rob, one of the lads in work (thanks again Rob) had all the gear at his shed. We planed all four sides and glued them up. Nothing other than that. Took 4 evenings after work to plane, glue and trim and collection on 5th night.

Evolution saw is pretty good.
I've the 240V one on the table.
Good power and have had no issue so far with off angle cuts. Slow and steady as she goes.
Blade has held up pretty well considering the amount of cuts compared to the normal angle grinder blades I've been using.
The one thing is the clamping screw. It doesn't have the fast clamp set up. You have to screw in and out with no quick release mechanism. Other than that she's pretty good. (The wife hates it when I give gender to my tools [emoji12][emoji12][emoji12][emoji106])

So, managed to get a few hours at the bench today. I'm working on a shelf for my chop saw.
This one is just to help me stop cutting steel on the ground. This design will change as I've an idea and want to do a few sketches to see what ye think if it.

How it will look.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/25/1d7cc436ce6157c781abc1b26bbd04ee.jpg

The bench proving its value already. Helping to clamp the slides for the chop saw.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/25/b0a341b832fd871bb3e14b003d2b8790.jpg

Some holes to allow for the movement of the bolts.

Base plate for the bolts for the chop saw to sit on.

Bolt in place with the base plate.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/25/7d8e014eb27849d89a4d0ccf4425e065.jpg

This is all just tacked into place. Don't want to hard weld it yet as I said above I want to run a few things by ye.

Thanks.

Sorry to bother about a later post but what drill/setup is that/ I have been seeing it a lot lately and my gosh would it be useful for about 80% of the stuff I do at the shop or at home. Looks quite fascinating. Is it an electromagnet on the bottom as well? Would love to get one!

Hi TauntDevil,
Yeah, it's a mag drill. (Magnetic drill).
I only picked that up a few months ago. After using it the first time I then said to myself 'how have I been drilling holes all these years'
Best piece of kit I bought. I've most annular cutters. 14mm up to 32mm. (That's the max my drill will go to).
You can get them to go up to around 56mm. At least the ones I've looked at.
Mine is a Rotabroach Puma. The baby model. [emoji3]
I can't recommend this type of drilling highly enough. Plenty of oil/coolant to keep the cutters sharp and it cuts like a hot knife through butter.
Also, the real good ones have two mag settings. One to allow for slight movement when setting up the drill and the second to lock it in place.

Got a few more hours on the bench toady.
So, when the box iron was in the main box iron it moves/racks a little and I knew I should have put the bolts in before painting but I drove on anyway.

Cleaned up the fresh paint and welded on two nuts to allow the bolts to tighten up against the box iron.

f8c9d3f0e36f735ef59b8a5b893bd8a2.jpg

Welded the plate to the vice box iron.

0332bd71f81308dd62eeb1f33a56a65f.jpg

Then I saw that the vice could hit the timber top if I just slammed it in there. So I decided to put a back stop in place that will stay hidden under bench and no risk of damaging the top.

8f38df789647be2bb6972fc1d050b127.jpg

Delighted with how it turned out and when it is tightened in place with the two bolts. Super job.

Hahaha, I hear yah on collecting. I wish I could find more bessey clamps on sale. They're pretty expensive here as well. I troll eBay pretty often to see what comes up, found 2 ratcheting ones for $60 US shipped, not bad.

That is very cool. I need to find a planer and some more clamps. That table top looks great. Showed my wife, she was impressed. May have found a future project for me ;)

Haha, my wife is the same way. I have to watch what I say or she gives me the look, hah.

Awesome dogs. I'm glad you brought up clipping. What shears do you use? I have been looking for some decent clippers and saw someone using horse or sheep shears to trim there pups. I have three dogs and I trim them and would love to find the trimmers of all trimmers. I did find a new set from Wahl that is brushless. Still unsure what to do.

Awesome job on the table, it looks great.

Hi Sqznby,
We have horses at home and the clippers at home does the job (they are older than me :) ). No images of them sorry. I'll check what make and model when i'm back down there.

No movement on the bench since. Picked up a nice little Vice in the meantime.
Record No.21 QR.
I know I don't need it but....
Watching loads of the Rugby World Cup at the moment. Fantastic stuff.

So, I've been tipping away with the bench and decided I needed to stop tools dropping through the slats.
Just stuck this thing together with some scrap bit of metal floating around.

22d4b089a9a9faa60f130a95ed1ecdbd.jpg

a156ee6f7de9ad3a8c93655ec51c144b.jpg

I only threw a few tacks on it for now. ;)

Also, anyone here got plans for a soapbox car (Max 50kgs)
Competition in work - 5 weeks from now. Might get a few boys together to do it.

Thinking road bike frames etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So, I decided to work on the timber chopsaw pull out for the second bench.

Luckily the 40mm box iron I had cut had enough length in it for me to work with.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446401590.854336.jpg

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446401607.309233.jpg

Small bit of tacking and welding later....

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446401625.118530.jpg

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446401649.549418.jpg

And this is it in place with the timber top I'll use. Need a sheet of ply to bring it up to the bench height and I'll countersink the chopsaw to hold it in place.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1446401722.850607.jpg

That's about it for now. I'm running out of weekends as I have a small one on the way in 5 weeks. [emoji3]

Hey Folks,
No update really only to say I haven't worked on the bench in weeks. Still planning on the swivel chopsaw and rollers. Have everything I need except time. :)
With the baby on the way it looks like these modifications will have to wait.

Well, the day finally arrived. We had a little baby boy last night (15th Dec). He was 7.6lbs. Right little buster of a fella. Name still undecided. Looks like I'll have to get another bench built for this little guy. [emoji106][emoji106]

So the little fella has consumed all of my time. Who knew!!!
But I did pick up a nice new tool chest for the shed. Ordered it yesterday so deliver is at least a week away.
It's a monster of a thing. Rob, the lad who helped (did most of the work) on the timber top bought one and I was so impressed I decided I had to have one. This is it. It's a TMUS box and each drawer is rated for 55kgs. It's good and solid and will keep with the colour scheme. [emoji3]
