Is this that "Snap-Off" stuff that ive seen floating around PepBoys? From what I've always known, the only way to buy genuine SO stuff, is obviously the trucks, now the internet, and industrial sellers. Not walk in stores... :headscrat

I think this is the case. This seems to be the Snap-On authorized merchandise that you can buy many places. I doubt we'll ever see Snap-On tools on the Sears website.

lol...yep, there's a lot of stuff out there with the Snap On name on it. I picked up a "Snap-On" 12 outlet power strip at Costco a few weeks ago. I didn't buy it because it had the brand name on it, I bought it because i needed one for my workbench and because it was only $25!! funny thing is, I saw the same power strip on Ebay a couple of days ago for around $60!!! Costco also sells flashlight/pocket knife combos that people are reselling on Ebay for double and triple the original cost...and people are actually bidding on them!!! I guess there IS a sucker born every minute!!

This is simply Snap-On licensed merchandise. Just like the NFL, MLB, NBA, Chevy, Ford, etc....... sell rights to use their name. You will never see Snap-On hand tools in stores..........well hopefully never :eek2:

Lets be honest guys if SO saw a value or possible profit to sell in the big box stores, THEY WILL. Why would they miss out on a chance to be exposed to another market?

Brand licensing - the latest scourge. These days there is little assurance that you are buying something from the company on the nameplate. This is different from, say, Easco being the OEM for a Craftsman tool. Craftsman has Easco (or whomever) build a particular tool to their specifications and sells it under their brand name and guarantee. Those Snap-On trinkets you see in the big box stores and such are made by an independent third-party company which licenses the name, with only a passing blessing (and a good deal of cash to) the licensing company. Most often this arrangement precludes the licensee from making any products similar to that which the host company makes. Snap-On does not make flashlights, vacuums, cord reels, etc. Stanley does not make those big yellow spotlights you see at Home Depot, those are made by an outfit called Bacchus Global. All those GE Xmas lights you see on the shelves these days are licensing the name. While all this stuff and others like it might have a prestigious brand name, it's not the "real deal" in the truest sense. The items are most likely pretty decent quality too. I have some of the above mentioned goods, and the stuff is a decent value for the money spent and good quality. And, of course, all of it comes from our favorite People's Republic.

I spotted a Snap-On boxcutter/multitool combo pack at OSH last week and decided to take a closer look. Generic quality and made in China. What a joke...
