Did I read in another thread some days ago that it was a crime to own a section/piece of railroad railing? If so, well I'm guilty. I have two pieces that my father-in-law made for me way back in late 1960's when he worked for the old Frisco Railroad Co. In fact he also made two "dog irons" for the fireplace from the steel railings. Best darn dog irons for a fireplace and will last forever....I'm still using them this winter.
The two RR railing are different lengths, and one was cut by a torch, the other was by a saw as you can see. I don't know why my father-in-law cut a hole in the larger railing... maybe he thought I was needing it for a boat anchor, etc.
Also I have a old Littlestown #140 swivel bench vise that needs the swivel bottom. I've had this vise from the 60's and when the bolt that holds the swivel base broke, I set the base aside and that's when it disapearred..never to be found. If anyone here know where I could get a swivel base, sure would appreciate it.
Here are some pictures on the RR railing pieces that I use for anvils.
