Is it just me? (wera screwdrivers)

Everyone goes off on how great these handles fit in their hands. These handles do not fit my hand at all! I have a regular sized hands as well.Are these built for bigger hands? The 'lump' i've shown in the picture, bugs the hell out of me. I really do want to like them, as they are great tools. But everytime I pick one up at the tool store, I can't get over how crappy they fit me.

Anyone else not like how these feel in your hands?

Look, there is no perfect tool brand. Tools, especially hand tools, are a matter of personal preference. Merk, (who hides behind different names), hates any screwdriver with a hole in the handle. He claims he gets his little pinky stuck in it.

Me, I can't stand the new SK suregrip green screwdriver handles. They're too big for the blades, lost the taper off the older French made version, and are bulky. A pry bar handle doesn't make a great screwdriver handle. I want to like them and to support the new SK but, I just can't bring myself to do it.

You don't have to like everything posted in these pages. The key is not to bash someone else's choice because you don't like it. there are many other screwdriver brands to use and treasure, find the one that makes you want to screw.

I've wondered that myself. I wish there was a local place that carried wera, I'd really like to fondle their Kraftform 27 ratcheting driver, but at $45 it is a bit much to gamble on. So far my favorite screwdriver is the older black craftsman pro drivers.

I'm with you Diesel. I played with them many times but I just couldn't bring myself to purchasing them. Beautifully built and with recommendations from the GJ crew they are clearly durable but for me they just didn't fit my hands. Too bad I wanted to buy them.

I personally love how they fit my hand, it took some time to get used to though. From reading pretty much every Wera thread on here, I can tell you that you either love them or you hate them. That's how it is generally.

You should try buying a single one and play around with it for some days/weeks and see if you will grow accustomed to it.

I like them but they are not as durable as some make out,

No2 phillips laser tip needs changed every year or so for me.

If you find you dont like wera you could also try felos. Handle are very ergonomic and blades are solid. With that said I love my weras and felos. The weras took a week to get use to but once I figured how to use them they were perfect for me.

I love the handles but buggered my PH2 the first time I used it on my wife's RTA-type desk removing the damaged keyboard tray. I was a little disappointed, but still like them and use them inside. I have Wiha's in the garage, and they seem a little more durable, but I'm comparing Wiha's heavier dutier (that's a word, right?) version to basic green lasertip Weras.

I used to like the stanley handles which were produced for a short time. I will try to describe them. They were fattest at the base (closest to the blade) where your thumb and index and middle finger are and thinner towards the palm where you hardly have any grip. I personally thought and fellt I could get the best grip and torque with them.

Woodcraft carries Wera in store, if there is one close to you. Sears has Wiha, specifically they have the 1000v insulated set. I find the grip on the two about the same even without the extra shape bits on the Wera.

This is going to sound weird but at first, if its not comfortable to you, hold it 'their way' and you will get a better grip and more torque out of it. I was used to the hard handle styles, and they didn't work well for me at first.

I've never liked these either!

Irrespective of the quality, which isn't bad (not 'top end', but not bad) the shape doen't suit my hands, and I don't find these soft finishes durable. They pick up grease, then grit, then the handle is abraded before you know it! Fine for working on electronics, but no good in my place!

The Wera handles always look like a Daleks donger to me anyway!

If you like the blades, try the Wiha (especially the micro finish) which are much nicer! Alternatively, try the PB Swiss! If you get the 'classic' handle you will probably find it a perfect fit for an average hand! As n alternative, they offer 'Multicraft' handles which are a fraction bigger!

Where did you get a chance to fondle them? Do any brick and mortar stores carry Wera stuff? Grated I'm in the states so maybe we get a different selection down here

O, please don't tempt me. The only thing that makes me hesitant about alot of the European brands and even some of the industrial USA brands is that I really like to feel a tool in my hands before I purchase. For what they cost I want to be 100% I know what I am ordering. Too bad no one sells a sample pack of misc drivers for ~$20. That way you could try out the fit personally. Of all tools, screwdrivers are probably the most personal fit. Me personally I don't like the square and triangular snap on drivers.

The Wera grip is by far my favorite screwdriver grip and I have a few different brands.

I was just given a Wera standard tip driver. Never had one before, and alot of guys here swear by 'em. So, I tossed it in with my work tools and I'll give them a try.

I have a couple of favorite screwdrivers, but it seems like its the tip that makes it right for me. I don't know that I pay the grip much mind.

I like Wera. As I was researching, some reviews complained the handles were too big, and some that they were too small. It was only after buying some that I found they have different sizes. I just counted four sizes (plus the micro line). They all feel comfortable to me.

It is all personal preference and the shape and size of ones hand. You find one that fits and stay with it.

i have weras and i love the handle, co-workers after holding them for a minute say they love the feel also, feels really "ergonomic", and it really does help to get more turns out of a driver before your hand wants to cramp up, the larger part of the handle is meant to fit in a specific spot in your palm, you should hold it kind of like a tennis racket, i prefer this style handle to a lot of others. and the only downside is that the handle does require some extra cleaning, but it also keeps giving you torque when another screwdriver would give you none when the handle gets a little dirty. less you have to grip it, the easier it is on your hand

I am used to the German made Witte Pro-Top, mine have held up
My set is about 15+ years old
I never use the old Craftsman set

The handle shape is ok. More of a gimmick that doesn't help or hinder.

The material is another matter. Unless you have just washed your hands in acetone, they slip when putting any torque on them. Having a rag handy to wrap around them is a must. This is where a square handle like an SK or Mac shines.

I have a size 10 hand extra large (for a europian size) hand and I prefer any Wera screwdriver over any other available brand in my region. They only sell Stanley, Luxx, Kwb, Gedore, Beta and Tengtools in my area.

The Wera screwdriver give me a massive ammount of grip compared to other brands.
With the subject towards the handle the grip just need a decreaser like brakecleaner and then the handles are super clean. Giving back the green shine and origional grip for.

Stubby type, comfort type and 300 type all give grip depending on their softness and handle shape.

The only superior screwdrive is to me the PB swiss, felo or witte are not known to me.

This is going to sound stupid, mostly because it is, but I don't like the looks of the Wera screwdrivers...odd shape and looks like a bad European soccer jersey. I told you it was dumb. Haha
