If you think the commercial is annoying in English, catch it in Spanish like I did the other night while channel surfing.

I have a large one of the same material sold in the UK as a camping towel.
The advertising said it "dried 15 boy scouts" before needing ringing out...

I wrote an article about it and asked the company to change their advertising.

Why is there an obvious "voice over" when Vince compares the ShamWow to a kitchen sponge.

Watch commercial, he covers his mouth with the towel and the pitch of his voice changes when he says "This lasts ten years, this lasts a week"

I think the ShamWow marketing team had some fidgeting to do.

Can't sell a product on TV that only lasts one year.

the guy that dried those scouts is in jail now. What's the material anyway? I believe it's rayon.

They really do work.

The pitchman on TV has a fabulous wikipedia article - forget his full name though....

There are a few caveats. Don't use fabric softener when you wash them and you need to was them a few times before they start to work really well. They work a little better when they're damp rather than completely dry.

They're 100% rayon, per the box.

I got mine at (hanging head in shame :) Bed Bath & Beyond. Wife dragged me there for some post-Christmas sale shopping. Since all the Linens & Things stuff is gone, I went along. :bounce:

Funny BBB story: Out front there were about a dozen 20% off coupon in the trash. I picked them up and checked the dates, all expired. Inside, I mentioned this to my wife who said that BBB accepts expired coupons up to 30 days past the date. I ran back outside and grabbed the stack (all addressed to: our loyal customer at 123 main street...).

The nice cashier let me double stack them on our purchases since we had more coupons than items in the cart.

$20 - 40% = $12. Much better deal than the $28 online.

My wife wants one...badly.

So, beelsr, you are saying they are legit?

On another note: anyone seen Vince's new ad, for the Slap Chop? I like it when it comes on...too funny.

Best line: "You're gonna love my nuts!"

These things are nothing more than a more expensive rayon/felt type version of The Absorber, which has been on the market for YEARS. BTW The Absorber can be picked up at any local auto parts store for a few bucks.

I'm VERY particular about my vehicles finish and I use and combination of a leaf blower and Absorbers to dry off my vehicles after washing, they work very well.

BTW these rayon versions (ie scamwow) WILL scratch your automotive paint, according to a message board on autotopia.

Buy them from a store and you can return them if you don't like them. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)

I hate buying stuff I've never seen before over the phone. I want to see it in person first. Luckily, most of the stuff is in stores. Where I can look at it and put it right back on the shelf!

Yeah, I rarely watch commercials since I got a DVR but I at fingered the FF button and the voice started just as he said that and the wife and I gave each other this "did we just hear that?" look. Hilarious!

Someone has to have a website extolling the glorious history of the infomercial. From Ron Popeil to that sweater-wearing Amazing Discoveries to the gay-blade and the V-Slicer to BILLY MAYS...

Yup - there's something similar sold at Target and many auto shops - works well, and without having to deal with sleazy infommercial companies. Roadsters - thanks for that footage!

Vince Offer and Johnny Knoxville look like they could be brothers.
