Can you post a link? One of the things on my list is to replace the rubber sway bar links with homemade poly units.

don't have a link,but what i'm doing is,

i built an entire prototype out of pieces of plexi glass for something, then i'm just going to buy a siicone mold kit off ebay, gallon size is about 100 bucks.once i have the mold made, then i'm going to pour it with alumilite.this way i will have an actual one piece item in my hand to present to a development company.if i can ever find one, wich is a PITA btw.

If you want to use 100% silicone caulk available everywhere just mix in a little artists acrylic paint. There is some sort of chemical reaction between the two (maybe moisture or glycol) that causes the silicone to cure in the absence of air which is normally the problem when using this material. I have made casts from products by silicone industries (2 part) and it is a great product too but very expensive! This is a very common practice in taxidermy from what I found when I was researching.

i'm just going to do the silicone kit,a 1 gallon kit is 100 bucks and i won't use the whole thing for this project, meaning i will have some on hand for my third prototype.

i don't consider a 100 to be alot of money for being able to have three finished products in my hand.plus another 100 for an alumilite kit.200 still isn't bad for developing 3 things.takes money to make money.

Adam Savage of Mythbusters had a pretty detailed article in Make magazine awhile back - don't know if it is online or not.

He had a lot of detial on how to make perfect duplicates of things.

Check out the Instructible.com website for Oogoo - made from silicone RTV and cornstarch to make molds. Haven't tried it myself but looks cool from posted video.

McMaster Carr has 2 part mixes in all kinds of types and hardnesses. I've made engine mounts with it
