This 150 drill press is on CL for $200 and the guy is firm on price. I sold my other drill press a long while back for financial reasons but now I am back in the market for a DP. I really like the 150s but wasn't sure about the price. It doesn't have the slow speed pulley but another GJ member can help me out with that. These are the pics from the ad and apparently it runs great. Respect your guy's opinions, so please let me know your thoughts on this DP. Thanks in advance.

If everything is in good shape then it is likly worth the asking price (depending on location)
However that would be top of the market

I paid about that much for my 100. Maybe it was a little on the high side, but there are slim pickings here. If you like it and can afford it, and it's in good shape, go for it.

It probably is. I wouldn't pay that much. For $200 I would want it to be original paint and look like it was made yesterday. I paid $70 for my Atlas, and it looks like it was made yesterday. I guess it comes down to how bad, and how soon, you need it. I will admit that I am both picky and cheap.

Does a 150 have 2 spindles or 3? Never mind... I missed it in the original post. Mine only has 2, but only having $70 into it made it okay with me. For $200, you are paying a LOT for something that does not do exactly what you want.

I will keep mine until I find a 3 spindle press, in just as good condition, for under $100. I am in no hurry. The greatest generation is dying off, so there will always be another estate sale...

I would check the spindle for play. I had to replace the bearings and chuck on mine, and it still has a lot of run-out.

If it is in excellent condition, you really want a drill press and you have $200, then go for it. It is top of the market as stated previously, but you will love it.

Wow, that has even less of an arc of shame than mine. 1 single mark! Mine has 3.

Where do you get foot pedals for drill presses? Also... How do they work? Does the pedal plug into the outlet, and the press plug into the pedal? Just curious?

The foot pedal came with the press, I think it's a Craftsman item, as I remember. And it works just as you described.

Unless it's in super remarkable shape and smooth as butter, I would feel dirty inside if I paid two bills for that......

Used drill presses on Craigslist are ridiculous. Seems like because it's older it's got to be better. Even if it was entry level when it was made. Somehow a $400 drill press in the mid 90s is now selling for $350. Anyways back to the OP question. I think $200 is a little steep for that drill press I would offer him $125.

Same here, I would offer $125-150 and see what happens. I would also want to check runout as mentioned, and make sure its not worn out...take a piece of solid stock and a 1/2" or bigger drill bit, see how well it does.

I tried to offer him $125 a few days ago, but he responded that he was firm on the price. Anyway, I think I will just pass because I just don't feel comfortable with spending that amount of money for the condition and not having the slow speeds. I just needed you guys to help confirm what I was already feeling. Thanks all!

Also, Jason, I love that profile pic!!

I don't know you're local market but to me I'm looking at , well, pay an extra 50-75 or keep using my time hunting for a year maybe more and still not find exactly what I want. Assuming it passes upon inspection.

How long has it been on CL? If a long time, make an offer, it won't hurt. If a short time, see if it is there in a week and make an offer. Otherwise go pick it up, as $50-75 really isn't that much of a difference when you might be searching for a year.

It had been on CL for about 3 weeks when I made an offer, but he declined. I'm just going to wait until I find something I am happy with.

It really comes down to the local market. If it is in great shape with good bearings, it could very well be worth it. To me the cost of the tool really does not matter as much if it works well and I use it for years.

Sounds a little high but if it's 100% complete, and in good condition and ready for immediate use then go for it.

Awaiting a "you ****" price can take time, gas and may result in having to find repair parts and do some restoration.
