Is this a decent Band Saw?

A friend of mine gave me an old Craftsman Band Saw today. Is this a decent Band Saw? It looks pretty good to me for an older saw. I see that there is no guard on the back side where the blade comes up the back side, was that standard? Was there a factory cover for the blade in that area? I'm thinking I need to make something to cover that. It does need a new tire on the top wheel, hopefully I can find a set for both wheels.

I would have taken it, looks to be in fairly good shape. Post it over in the Vintage Tool Discussion and you will get a lot of info on it.

It's a Craftsman 12" Band Saw. For light duty they are fine.

Until they closed recently, it was Sears Simpson in Canada. I assume they merged at some point. The 103 prefix on the model number is King Seeley, the saw's manufacturer.

Not quite like that, it depended upon where you lived in Canada. I grew up in Western Canada(AB) and the stores were called Simpsons-Sears. When I moved to Ontario in the early sixties I found Robert Simpson stores here. It was a complicated path to where they all ended up.

But you are right on the saw......same thing, only different (nameplate).
