I walked into an old hardware store today that I would call a time capsul. Looks like it closed for 20 years then reopened. Old Irwin made in USA screwdriver displays with old Stanley 100 Plus screwdrivers. Also had dusty old new Easco wrenches on the shelf. What wasnt Easco was old Stanley USA made. Picked up this for $19.99.

Seemed out of place for a 20 dollar bill. Very smoothe ratcheting mechanism. Is this a good deal? Or just another “whatever” item?

It says its Made in USA, but I never trust Stanley. Its dated from 1990, and they got busted for USA made fraud a little over 10 years later. Can someone tell me a bit about the Stanley Professional line? Thanks.

Also would like to know what this is worth. I tried looking it up myself and found nothing. Is it worth what I paid? am I getting ahead of myself?

I ask because theres a whole wall of new old stock Easco/Stanley Professional tools hanging in there, and if its worth it I will buy up what I can/need.

We LOVE pics of tool time capsules!:lol_hitti

That hardware is right next to a long since abandoned train station. Fellas used to hop off the train and buy what they needed there. The history is pretty interesting.

Easco was never a part of Stanley that I know of, the made decent stuff regardless. If the have any of the Easco RHFT ratchets pick them up for re-sale here, they're popular.

Diamond would be another brand to watch/look for.

I had the same reaction at first, but I think OP meant where he got the ratchet had NOS Stanley and Easco.

OP- probably not worth much more than you paid, id just keep it exactly how it is and toss it in a drawer. I have a few NOS like that, and when I stumble across one at a non-ludicrous price I snag it and set it aside.

I was kinda hoping prices on Armstrong tools would skyrocket when they closed, as I have a NOS 3/8 locking flex 88t that I basically ended up with for free plus money in my pocket thru a couple trades. Since my retirement plans are dashed, I'll just hang onto it :lol_hitti

I also have a circa 1973 Wright 3/8 flex head w/ Tootsie Roll grip, an Easco 3/8 flex RHFT (prices on the Craftsman version are out of control), an SK Tuff 1 3/8 bent flex, and some of my Cornwells are still NOS bc I haven't used them yet, but they were bought to be users. I, too, seek out USA made and I love "time capsule" tools.

I have one, it was my grandfathers. It doesn't feel like much, but I enjoy the bent handle. The location and rational nature of the reversing lever makes it impractical in tight areas.

If I lost it, I might pay $20 for a brand new one. I like it for 4cyl spark plugs, loosening anyways.

I think you did damn well! I recently acquired a Stanley work master 1/4 ratchet similar to that minus the bent handle and absolutely adore the reverse mechanism! If I could find more of those like you have access to I’d buy them all!

My father had one of those but I always thought it was kinda gimmicky. It got sold with the bulk of his tools after he died. But I find I kind of miss it and wish I would have kept it. Nice find

Nice nos find. I’ve always felt the same, that those are one of the many questionable “Made in USA” round head ratchets.

Others include Craftsman, K-D, Blachawk, Martin, Master Mechanic, Husky, the list goes on.

Take a look at this thread, the packaging for the rebuild kit says made in USA with global materials.
