Hi guys, I've been searching for a good compressor for a while now and searched through all the threads here for more information but couldn't find anything specific on this model of Quincy compressor.

Quincy QT-54 Splash Lubricated Reciprocating Air Compressor — 5 HP, 230 Volt, 1 Phase, 60-Gallon Vertical, Model# 2V41C60VC

I will be using the compressor for auto restorations. I have 3 IHs that I'm rebuilding and therefore will be using it for air tools, sand blasting, and hopefully painting. My 24 year old TS 25 gal compressor is just not up to the job. I can run a cutoff wheel for a whole 20 seconds, 2 minute wait, then another 20 seconds. lol

Based on my intended use, is this a good compressor for the price? I don't like to buy used unless I know the source so I have been saving up for a new one.

What are the pros and cons of this Quincy? I know nothing about compressors.

TIA guys!

Quincy's are good compressors. It's what I would buy if I had a place to put it.

I have the QT-5 in my shop and really like it a lot. I did a lot of research before buying.

Not sure what the main differences between the QT-5 and QT-54 are though. We run air tools & plasma cutter most of the day. We've sandblasted with no problems. I'd guess it probably runs around 2 hours a day combined if not more. Had it for three years with no problems other than the magnetic starter switch went out.

Going to be getting its little brother for my home shop next week

The most important thing is the air delivery. That compressor is rated at 15.2 CFM @175 psi. It should be enough for what you want. I have found with compressors you just can't get too big of one.

I went used and run a Husky Pro with a 7.5HP 230 V Single Phase motor. It puts out 23.4 CFM @175 but even with all that air flow I can keep it running continuous with my blast box. I bought it broken off Craig's list from a commercial shop. Put about $300 in it to get it all back to stock. Good deal.

I was able to increase my gun and nozzle size after I got this compressor. It's really nice because of the increase in speed when blasting. With all that air it is effortless and the **** just boils off my parts! No waiting! My biggest problem now is the dust storm inside the box is pretty intense and I sometimes have to stop blasting to let it clear out enough to see.

Do you how much air your tools consume?

For general use and most people, splash lubrication is fine. Pressurized lubrication is for compressors that are going to be running a lot for a longtime. As long as its output is fine for your needs that you won't running it continually day in day out, it will be fine.

That is a nice one too but a bit out of my budget. I don't see a lot of difference beside the tank size.

Check the cfm numbers and the pump speed, motor speed. The slower pump will last longer and be quieter. The slower motor will have more torque. The QT-5 is a 50k hr pump. The qt-5 also has a motor starter. Just a step up from the 54. Though if your a hobbyist the 54 will probably outlast you of you treat it right.

Think of it as comparing an S10/ranger pickup to a 2500/f250 pickup.
