By looking at this plate can anybody tell if it is 3 phase or single phase? It doesn't come right out and say it that I can see but didn't know if there is some kind of code word for it or something? :dunno:

It is as dr. Joe indicates. Get the cut sheet from emod if you still have time before auction. Send them pic of nameplate. Go to emod-motoren.de and fill in the contact info.

The "S" might be referring to the duty rating of the motor. Another Euro motor I have has a "Duty" field on the nameplate and it is marked "S1". This is in addition to also having a "SF" field" of 1.15.

Its 3phase. The triangle/double star behind the 220V means that this is a Dahlandermotor... I just have the german wikipedia-page for it, sry.

Yup, the 220 Delta/ YY on the data plate indicate such.
Is that a Scotchman cold saw?

Interesting. I couldnt see those symbols on the first few looks at it.

Why no HP rating?

Another issue, since this is a european motor, is the voltage and frequency! Nominal US voltage is 240v 60hz not 220v 60hz...

The HP rating is not commonly used in europe for motors.
It's the same with tools: the US seems to indicate the current draw even for marketing purposes. In Germany we use the power rating
