Have you checked with your PoCo about the 7.5HP motor?

Some PoCos have rules on max HP.

Its was in the shop when I bought the house 10 years ago, and had been there for probably 20 years before that since the shop was built.

I asked about more power to the house and they had no issue when I asked about upto 400amp if I needed it (i knew I didn't need that much) because of shop equipment. They even said that 3ph was available on the pole, but I whould have to move to a commercial account for the house if I wanted 3ph.

I might be limited to 100 right now, but I know an upgrade in the house to 200amp panel is in the near future to get 125amp to the shop.

125a feeder will require 1/0, 1/0, 2, 4 xhhw AL.
  • You may be limited by the max cb your current panel can accept.
  • The cb may not accept 1/0 conductors.
  • The neutral bar may not accept #2.
You could work around these points on a temporary basis.

I would run 1.5" sch 40 pvc panel to panel w/o any jboxes to eliminate unnecessary splices.

Here is the details on triple rated USE cable. Triple rated permits interior use while a straight single rating of USE only is not permitted inside.

General Cable seems to offer only triple rated USE while Southwire offers single and triple rated.

The issue isn't total current draw, it's is about high, temporary demand. The transformer needs to be able to support the extremely high startup load of the large motor
