Mind getting a picture of the next car boot sale you see? I'm picturing a parking lot with people selling out of their trunk...

As Ruff said above, you got it spot on.

Happen all over the place, lots of schools/churches do them for fundraising with anyone turning up with a car full of "unwanted" and a fold up table, open boot (trunk) and sell! Sellers pay for a pitch dependent on vehicle size and punters are charged an entrance fee (usually £1)
Generally they are during the spring/summer months but there are ones that run weekly all year by professionals on hardstandings like the one I was at today.

Everything was crazy cheap. I had to pass up a lot of stuff because I couldn't leave the car for long. Here's what I got for $20.

That's why I passed up an old SO roll around full of stuff. Stupid car.

Ouch, that is just painful to hear. What bottom box was it? There is always the roof.

I got these three boxes with contents for $15. Lots of **** went in the scrap bin already, this is what I'll keep or sell.

Well I paid 7 bucks for everything, so if the other tools were $1 each, then the box of indicators was free!

I scored the bigass Channel Locks, CL side cutters(up for trade) and Craftsman vise grips for....you probably guessed it...$10.

I went to 3 flea markets today, didn't pick up much, but saw a few cool things that I couldn't afford.

First was an old SnapOn tool stack. I couldn't find the model numbers but the top was similar to a KR531 that someone posted not too long ago. He wanted $125 for each piece but was willing to go down to $100ea. Too rich for my blood.

The other was a blacksmith's post vice. About a 4 - 4 1/2" jaw, with chain drive and original mounting bracket. It was in beautiful condition, but he wanted $500 for it and wouldn't budge for any of the 6 guys crowded around it drooling.

I spent $25 today. (more than I wanted to )

So, found something of interest on CL, so before I met up with her, had some time to kill. Hunted down a mysterious tool sidewalk sale in Philly... no such luck. Found the address, but nothing out on the sidewalk at all.

Then hit up the one flea market where everything is overpriced and never really find much. But, actually found stuff today!

Then met up with this lady trying to sell older CMan Machinists boxes at $50 each... Was saying how they sell for over $100 on eBay. No... there's a few listed at $100, but doesn't mean they're selling. Told her, judging by her pics, I'd do $70 for the pair but want to check them out first.

Both of them have the older logo on them, but one is definitely newer than the other. The older one has Kennedy style slides and a leather handle up top... the other has a metal handle up top but actual tool box slides in it. The older one was definitely more beat up than the newer one, but paid $60 for the pair. She's cleaning out her fathers basement so.. hopefully more to come from her!

I like that socket box, I just picked up some enamel paint that matches the color of the SK boxes, only it don't have the texture of it.

Just get some black crinkle paint at the autoparts store, lay that down as a base, then add the color coat. I did it with my brown kennedy and it matches really well.

It is painful. And I will never know. Besides, my wife would kill me if I started strapping stuff on the top of her car. The box was in pretty rough shape. Still, to be able to say that I have one...ah well.

I did take the time to drive back today just in case. They must have met their goal and cleared out the garage. No signs, no people.

Didn't go home totally SO free. The 1/4 speeder in the pic turns out to be a SO MV4. Had no idea. I didn't have a 1/4 in the box regardless so I snagged it.

What is the approximate center to center length? that answer could be almost anything you want them to fit, withing limits. I'd do a WAG at a SBC, but the key is the length.

Also, I noticed a business card at the register advertising 50% off storage and tool sets to tech students. IDK if any of you are tech students, or have youngans that are but that sounds like a great deal.

zk, Thanks!! Yes, I have ... um... a couple cantilevers laying around The hammer is 3lb 2oz but I figure the broken handle may be the 2oz. The big Cl were actually $5(their math), they were asking $5 for the big pliers and $2.50 ea on the other two...I said I don't care how you add it up, here's $10

Those are really handy bottom boxes being ~20"x14". I use to have a full drawer one, and now regret getting rid of it. You don't see those that often. Great score.

Gravity. No supports to them at all, but they do tilt back a few degrees, not much. I figured the first one has to be late 40's and is a direct Kennedy rebrand. The newer of the two has to be late 50's right before they switched to the crown top logo. However, with real tool box drawer slides... not sure if that was Kennedy made or not. Although, the later one is easily 5lbs heavier than the older one.

I would think small block Chevy, but the bolts are offset approximately 45 degrees from the center, I would assume its for a clearance issue on something.

So I went to an estate sale this morning. They were drawing numbers and I got number 46. The first 30 were let in at first and I had to wait about another hour before my number got called. This was the last day of a 4 day sale and everything was 50% off today. I picked up a bunch of stuff on friday and decided to roll the dice and see if I can come back for some of the big ticket items for half off. Kinda kicking myself I just didn't spend the extra couple bucks and buy the tools I was eyeballing because it was pretty gone through today. Anyway... here are today's scores.

3 1/2" Craftsman vise. pretty stoked on it. I was surprised it wasn't getting any attention. I think everyone was so zoned in on all the wrenches and other hand tools to pay attention to the vise that was bolted to the bench itself. I just walked up, grabbed two 9/16 wrenches and unbolted it. lol

And this little guy. Fits perfectly in a corner that I needed filled with something useful. The drawers and top were lined with cardboard from the original box. No rust, scratches or scuffs. Only one tiny dent and some paint splatter that flakes right off.

Oh yeah. It was EPIC.
The entire contents of the house, garage, and shed were for sale as well as the house and property. Hell there were people buying the spices out of the cabinets.

You might compare the thickness measurement to a SBC rod, and the piston pin Dia. as well. I'm guessing for a 350 crank; you might be able to use it on a 327 as well.
