What is it.

Actually a better question would be: What are these magnets used for?

Like any thing else. If you have used them before the answer is simple.

cattle magnets. pieces of barb wire, scrap iron or other metal can be ingested by animals. this can irritate or perforate the digestive system of an animal. stick a magnet down their throat with a balling gun and hopefully problem solved and animal saved. great in theory but does not always work. death or invasive surgery are not the best end results.

I believe they are 'cow magnets'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cow_magnet

You get it down the throat by using a balling gun, and it will attract trash metal that is found in the feed.

We would use them inside the suction screen to catch metal residue from worn parts in the common oil sump, that would harm the hydralic pumps, valve bodies, etc, if allowed to circulate through the system after repairs were made.

Fully accurate and prompt response.

Elroy is impressed

We thought that one might take a little longer than 15 minutes. But NO.

Here is another, but this one is cheating a little:

It's an automotive part found in most cars today. When Elroy was in the machine design field he developed a high speed assembly procedure to place..........

oops, getting ahead of the story.

hmmm.... Is it some sort of position sensor?

-BWP

It's actually a bearing. Now the question becomes where is it used??

The seat maybe?

Window regulator?

Anti-Lock Brakes?

Brake peddle support?

Air bag?

Sway Bar?

Trunk Latch?

none of these.

Elroy developed the assembly equipment for the Wynn's-Precision plant in Springfield, Kentucky about 1998 or so.

Elroy was 13 at the time :wtf:

The white body is 1.290" in diameter x 1" tall. The brown insert is a Teflon faced bearing.

It supports the rack gear in a steering gear.

You know, I remember those now. I took a power rack and pinion steering gear rebuilding course in about 1985 when I worked at a Chrysler dealership. And have never had a reason to tear one down since.
