Thought this was worth sharing - apparently it's from 1938:

Haha in 1938? Probably more like $9 - and even then it was overpriced!
BTW, I'm not interested in buying it - just thought it was interesting. I bet it was the $hit back in 1938!
$90 in 1938 is about $1,486.88 today according to a inflation calculator.

Huh, interesting. So compare that to a small modern Snap On combo and I think you'll find that it's considerably less.
This is big news people. Snap On tools are actually getting cheaper, not more expensive
EDIT
you know, reading that again I might have gotten that completely backwards. But in the name of honesty I'll leave it as is.
And I would assume that back then it was more time and more actual man hours in the manufacturing process compared to todays automated computerized manufacturing.

Neat. But I think you guys are comparing apples to oranges here. The one posted a while back was a KR-61 super chest. This one is a K-60, much smaller, rarer, older and sought after in comparison. It was made during the war effort. Where as the KR-61's were post war effort. Is it worth what they are asking? No way, not in my opinion. It has a cool rounded appearance to it when all closed up.
1938....war effort? Thought it was made in America...
. Machines and tools produced during that time are informally refereed to war effort tools, as they could have and most likely were used to manufacture or work on item for use in the war. Those chests were built very late 30's to the mid/late 40's.
I bet it was the $hit back in 1938!

According to the link in the CL ad the K260 combo was exactly $90. No idea how much that amounts to in modern terms.
Well Im trying to get it. This is my white whale. Buick emblem Stuart.
For that kind of money he at least needs more and better pictures in the ad. Especially since this is a collectors item and he'll probably need to attract the attention of buyers from quite a distance away. Those buyers will want to see more pictures.
As far as the price, it's not worth that much to me, but perhaps it is for someone.
I'm sure it is and I doubt you will ever be tempted to find out. Nice story.... To me, this box is worth far more than $1,650, its priceless
