I have a set of 6 ton jack stands that failed when jacking up my dodge with a Cummins in it. They had been around since I was a kid I have no idea what they were, but I see some quality ones in my very near future. So what are you guys using?

I have a pair of Craftsman professional 6 ton stands and a pair of AC Delco 6 ton stands. I really wish Craftsman still made the 6 tons but I only see 4 ton available now. The AC Delco's seem to work fine though. The Craftsman have a beefier/thicker main support and wider saddle. However the AC Delco's have the notch for pinch welds you often find on vehicles now and they have the bottom footprint/pad under each leg of the jack stand. My older Craftsman don't have that feature although it hasn't ever been an issue for me. I use these four stands on my 6.0 Powerstroke F250. Prior to that, I used them for a '99 GMC 1500 Sierra.

Shot some pics of them.

Can you post a picture of the failed jackstands? I have a '95 Dodge Cummins and routinely use jackstands under it.

There must be 2 Asian companies make them. One of the 6t was a bit better, 1 Gage better plate but it's not much of a deal. I set a 10k truck front on a couple. If they are not raised hi cant see much to go wrong with them. On a pickup or 1t they are not loaded much.

Like I said they have been around 25 years that I know of. To be fair it may have been how I was using them. I had the jack stands pretty far back on the truck and fully extended so I could take loose the control arms and drop the front axle as low as possible to put in bigger front coils. I'd say that they were just forward of the teetering point. They're still functional one frame warped and let the truck fall. Only damage was to the jackstand . May have possibly been user error as I was stuck into doing it in a barn without concrete. Either way retiring that set to something better.

Torin 43004. $79 for a pair on Amazon.

I've only used it 2-3 times to hold up my CRV while installing a bumper guard, and I'm still alive lol. I'm definitely no expert though so take that into consideration as well.

I have a pair of the Torin 6 ton stands that I picked up for use with my Tacoma last year. I think I paid $50 for the pair on sale at Pep Boys and bought the matching 3 ton SUV jack that goes with them. All made in China with typical cheap Chinese metal and welding but they work just fine.

My rule of thumb is to buy the largest capacity that you can which will still fit under your vehicle.

I like those ACDelcos. Did you get them at O'Reilly's? That slot for pinch welds is something I have never taken notice of. I didn't know Craftsman had 6tons....I have the 4tons that look just like yours. The newer ones have the webbed feet, as I have seen on here, but mine didn't when I got them about 5yrs ago

Since I am not really a "tool guy," when you ask for the rating, I think of Amazon's rating from customers haha

If you mean how much it can hold, it says 3 tons.

I bought a set of HF 6 ton jack stands when they were on sale for like $30-40 or something and use them on my 1993 extended cab f250 diesel 4x4 with a 300lb custom front bumper and a tool box filled with probably 500 lbs of tools, chains, etc. Plus I hammered, pryed, jerked, pulled, pushed and everything in between when I installed new leaf springs and rear end and they were fine.

I also always leave the floor jack under the truck just barely touching the frame or whatever so the weights not directly on it, but will be there should the jacks fail.

Update: I'm always leery of HF stuff, so before I actually used them I tested each one individually. I jacked the truck up and one by one set them under the trailer hitch and individually they held the weight of the truck.

My driveway is uneven and on a hill. The base of those seem small and look unsteady unless on a perfectly flat cement floor.

Yeah, depending on how uneven your driveway, these may not work. I'd say the base is about 3-4 inches in diameter. I also use this in my driveway, which has some level of unevenness, but certainly not considered a hill.

When these are in place, I also put wheel chocks on the opposite wheels. Two for each wheel, front and back, to make sure there's no rolling.

The bases look mighty small on these. I have read tipping complaints about them online.

Torin 6-Ton Jack Stands with Locking Pin
I have a set of these. They aren't that beefy and the pin barely catches the tooth of the post, but they do work.

Yeah, I got them at O'Reilly's. The Craftsman I bought around 2001. I don't see Sears listing a Craftsman 6 ton anymore but the 4 tons look just like them except for the foot pads which I consider an improvement. I wish the Delcos main post was beefier although they do have horizontal cross-fills across the vertical channels of the post which the Craftsman does not. Neither has failed, of course, and both sets have done duty under the 6.0 front end which is a heavy beast although well under 6 ton rating. I like 6 tons for both the comfortable safety margin and the added height.

I also have a couple of Pro-Lift 3 ton jack stands I use on the wife's Honda Civic but I use the Delcos with them when I need four since it allows for the pinch welds. The Civic sits so low the 6 ton stands are bottomed out to get it under with my Allied 3-1/2 ton floor jack fully raised.

Those USA made stands that SMKS posted look nice except for one draw back, to me at least, is that very wide stance. My Delcos are wide enough as it is and those look much wider. It can get crowded underneath trying to work a floor jack and proper placement of the jack stand and maneuvering with a creeper if working close to the stands placement.

At a glance those Torin 43004 stands look like the OTC 1582, but a second look shows they have different bases.

I have used my roommate's OTC stands and they perfectly adequate, however I'll only use them with the post set in the lower positions. Above a certain adjustment (I can't remember which one) the post has a lot of play. That and like the Torin's, as someone pointed out, the base is pretty small.

I'd like a set of euro stands (AC Hydraulic, Compac, etc). Better yet, given the time and resources, I wouldn't mind fabricating my own set modeled after this guys: Building tripod stands

Fyi, US Jack rates per stand for some reason, so the US Jack 3 ton = other brand's 6 ton. I have two sets and very happy with them.

If I'm gonna spent 150 bucks plus shipping on jackstands I'm gonna make em myself. For that kind of money I could build 4 jackstands that make those look like puny toys and I would have 4
