I have a 14N 3JT super chuck that a jaw is missing 3 teeth on. Weird part is nothing else in the chuck is hurt.

So the chuck body states the service kit 30345 for it which is basically everything new but the body and sleeve. Way more than I need a new set of jaws would put me back in action. So service kit is around $165 plus shipping is the best I have found or I can but a new chuck for $185... WTF

Anyone know anyplace that is reasonable for jacobs parts or sells the jaw sets with out the rest of the guts?

Check Ebay.
Either sellers will want more for the parts than the cost of a new chuck,
Or they’ll sell the parts cheap because it’s miscellaneous **** they have no use for.

As for parts cost, back in the day, when stuff sold for near the list retail price, it was worth it to fix stuff.
Now that everything is discounted, parts and repair cost is pretty much near the cost of buying the item new.
A new chuck might not be made to the same standard though, sonce Jacobs manufacturing got outsourced.

I've rebuilt a lot of chucks. Sadly rebuild parts are very expensive, too much to justify. It also doesn't guarantee good & straight performer afterwards. Those broken teeth is a concern, can you see any marring or scratches or grooves in other parts of the chuck?

Suggest buying another one on ebay. Only look for a USA made ones. Jacobs made in USA are the only ones labeled with USA on it, The rest are China as Jacobs since moved all their manufacturing overseas so make sure its says/see USA on the chuck itself in the pic otherwise pass.

I've had this U14N kit sitting around for a while. It doesn't look like it, but based on the nice bit contacts, I believe this is NOS. I believe these are usually wrapped in a wax paper, but that was absent. The nut is ~2-1/8" dia. The jaws are ~2-1/2" long.
PM if interested.

FrankLee - that would appear to be for an older chuck. The ring on mine looks different I think.

Makes me wonder if the jaws interchange though.

Macgee,

I need to clean up everything real well and inspect, nothing obvious jumped out at me at disassembly.

I've found some discounts on rebuild kits in the past and used them but always ended up wishing I'd just spent the little extra money on a new chuck.

I've since disassembled and kept the good chuck parts whenever one breaks and I replace it, but I never seem to need any of the spare parts I have on hand, lol.

Yes, please clean up, soak all the parts in a strong degreaser and then wipe clean. you then be able to feel all the surfaces for unevenness.

Again, best solution is to replace. When looking on ebay, be selective and make sure they have a pic of the jaws closed to see wear and how jaws line up together and a pic of the MT taper to see condition. Drill chucks are all about having good runout. It's a real shame Jacobs and Albrecht charge so much for their rebuild kits making you buy new chucks.

I may have a couple of 14N's laying around that I could sell.

Macgee shoot me a pm of what you have and want for them.

I looked all the parts over again and everything looks really good inside this chuck except the obvious issue.

Sorry, I just saw your posts. Were you the one who scored yesterday the 14N rebuild kit for $37 free ship on ebay?

Shoot me a PM if still needing a chuck and I'll pull out the box of 14N chucks I have.
