Great work on those salad implements.

And - re-reading the thread - I noticed your retractable spice rack. That set-up is sweet!

Thanks.

There are two different spice racks I built, the 2nd it much better in form and function. It took the first one to work out the bugs

Kitchen looks great. You are a man with many talents. Where do you store all the stuff? From the exterior shots with the chain saw it looks like you don't have a lot of room.

Yeah storage space is a real problem... and one of the driving factors to sell this house and get a place with some space for a real garage.

Currently I have all my tools and machines in my "not really a" 2 car garage + a 9×13 garage extension.

One day when this house is done I can get back to metal fabrication, but until then..

My wife wanted a mantle to hang stockings off of for Christmas, and since I had been promising one for the last year or two I was out of options for putting it off.

In addition to the mantle I also needed to finish cut and install the granite surround (extra from the two slabs I bought for my kitchen counter.) Also because we have the tv over the fireplace I wanted to recess the mount and add power and cable jacks to make a clean install.

Old direct vent fireplace removed and recess partially framed out.

The new fireplace installed and the granite ready to be cut to final dimension.

Installing the surround

Granite in place.

Mount recess

Once that was in place I started on the mantle. It's loosely based off the colonial mantle Norm built on the new yankee Workshop. It also allowed me to test out my new shaper and power feed.

Initial moulding samples for my wife

Once she picked the moulding I ran enough to finish the mantle and a bit extra just in case

The mantle mostly complete, with the exception of the top shelf.

The mantle in place and finished.

The whole package. The tv Is a bit large for the space...but oh well.

I decided I needed more space and bought a bigger garage. It just happened to come with a house.

I need some organization and shelving asap since I seem to have run out of space.

Reviving this thread.

So my wife and I finally had a patio built this past fall that we had been planning since we moved into this house 4 hears ago. The only thing was I refused to pay for the grill station area to be built. It just didn't seem worth the cost and I figured I could build it. I mean its only masonry, how hard could it be.

Part of the issue was when I designed the patio I didn't account for a retaining wall on the up slope side, the installers did their best given I wouldn't buy another pallet of wall block. In retrospect it was a solid decision as I never intended for the grill to go where it ended up, but I'm extremely happy that I didn't put it where I originally planned. (That will make more sense with some pictures)

So this is the upper patio area as the guys left it. It was functional, but not that great to look at. I thought about just adding some mulch between thr "wall" and fence but in the end didn't think that would look right.

So I started digging.

Then poured some concrete, layer some block and built a frame.

I also took the opportunity to tie the downspout into the patio/ foundation drainage, and added another yard drain for surface runoff

Poured more concrete for the steps

Then covered the entire thing in veneer stone and some thermal bluestone for the countertops, added low voltage stair lighting and covered the steps in more flagstone. The treads are actually pool coping, mostly because the local yard had a returned pallet of them.

More engine swaps please!

I've got a 02 CR80 sitting here that is begging me to turn it into a play bike. Its such a clean bike, I just can't bring myself to cut it up.
