The cabinets I salvaged from a neighbor who was throwing them out. I built the base from 2 x 4, leveled, and screwed the cabinets together. 58 inches long 25 inches deep. The drawers space comes in very handy.
Had enough room for my Proto/Snap-on stack, that is now organized. I can finally find stuff !! This was just a jumbled stack of boxes before I started.

Coated the Masonite today with 5 coats of Polyurethane. In the first few pics you can see why it takes so many coats. It soaks in so much that it almost looks like it wasn't even coated. I used a satin finish, which is why you don't see a high gloss finish.

Need to caulk the front edge, but other than that there isn't much else to do until the other boxes show up. I still have a lot of work to do on the rest of the shop. Maybe I'll get my thread started with that.

Been following your build it's turned out great!
Couple questions did you use receiver tubing for the receiver hitch? Or just normal tubing with the weld seam still inside?
Any reason why you didn't turn the angle iron on the bottom around so that it cradles the tool box?
Reason I ask is it looks a lot easier to slide the boxes into position like you did then having to drop them in. Once they are loaded up I doubt they will move but do you plan to secure them in anyway?

Also very jealous of those tents!

I would have had to raise the upper angle iron enough to allow the boxes to slide in and then down. It would just equal wasted space and raise the top unnecessarily. It also makes it a lot easier to slide it this way. Once in place they do not move even without being loaded with tools. I also considered angle iron at 90 degrees from the front to cradle the sides, but that's not how I'm supporting the boxes. I have 3/4" plywood cut that fits up inside the framework and rests on the two lateral beams where the casters mount. I didn't want the box just resting on the sides and wanted the best support for the box.

I know it's just a workbench, but I wet sanded the top and ran my buffer on it. It wasn't to make it shiny as much just to knock off the high spots. I'll post up pics tomorrow.

So I originally just started out wet sanding a couple spots to knock down the few specs off the top. It led to those areas being polished a bit......

And it went downhill from there. Once I started, I couldn't stop.

Not bad for a "satin" product. My buddy said if I had used gloss I would probably need a welding helmet to look at it.

Central Ohio ? If you suggested that Chad stop by, you must be close to him. Where do you buy your steel at ?

Bench looks great and the shine of that top is awesome.

I love the efficiency of having the toolboxes in the workbench. I'd recommend it!

Thanks! I'm in Mt Vernon and purchased my steel from Custom Cutters here locally.

Have a good steel source up your way? I work at Bucyrus Hospital every now and then.

The casters sit recessed into the bottom of the box. Not wanting the box to sit on it's frame, I cut a 12" wide piece of 3/4" plywood that runs from the front to the rear on each side of the box. That puts all of the weight on the brace beams that the casters were bolted to. I put a couple small pieces of carpet underneath the plywood to help it slide into place onto some scrap plywood. Once the boxes were set, I used a small scissor jack to lift the box and pull out the larger pieces of plywood.

Both new boxes in.

I have new drawer pulls, drawer liners, and emblems coming for the middle used box. It'll bring its look up to date and make it match the two new ones.

No not really. I usualy pick up what I need from a local guy(Pifer's). It can be slim pickings sometimes. There is another place that told me they would order in stock if I wanted it, I'd have to take the entire 20' stick though. It's a small 2 man fab shop that is hidden, Spec Tech. I'd have no problem buying a 20" piece as they woul cut it down (8'/12') for easy transportation and storage.

My biggest issue is the storage of long pieces and no wall space. I think I have figured out a spot to make some storage though, on my I-beam.

EDIT; I noticed the EAC shirt, that you/your business ?
