Well the weekend after the gators the boys were all in for laying some shingles. My buddy managed to get the inspection signed off over the phone  so my 3 sons and 2 friends went at it. I had to work so I came home at the end :lol_hitti
these guys are not roofers we have 2 body techs,2 auto glass guys and 1 that repairs wheels ;) but I think they did a dam good job

we did run into 1 issue I was short a piece of drip edge and what I got from HD wouldn't work. they had to stop on the one side till I was able to get the correct piece

I was able to get the last piece of drip edge and 2 of my sons said they had no problem finishing the shingles and figured we could get on it after work 1 after noon during the week. Unfortunately my FIL passed away and threw a wrench in our plan  so we had a slight delay as we had to travel to Georgia.

The boys and I only stay 1 day and came back Friday night by Saturday the were asking me to go rent the nail and 2 of them finished it cap and all I think it looks pretty dam good.

some times things just fall in place. Monday I'm catching up on stuff in my office and keep hearing something like earth moving machines :dunno:
My neighbor a few doors down is having a pool installed :lol_hitti and I can use some fill dirt. A short bike ride was in order next day I have this for free.
And for those that don't think that's dirt it is in Florida trust me :eyecrazy:

JCQ....first off, my very sincere condolences to your wife, you, and the rest of the family on the passing of your FIL. It's never good when a tragedy like that happens. Just be there for your wife, which I know you will.

Congrats on getting things signed off so far. I'm still speaking with a couple of contractors and hoping I can get something started here in a couple of weeks. It takes me longer to even get a price from a contractor (if they even give me one) than it would ever take to build a garage. So good for you for getting yours up and underway. I may just have to rent your son's and son's friends from you for a little while. :lol_hitti

No roof vents or did I miss them or are they not needed? Seems like the black roof in Florida will have a lot of heat.

Kevin thank you , I did the best I could for her and at points it drove me nuts but once she and her 11 siblings were together all was well.
I'm getting excited and want it done but I have vision in my head so it make take a bit to get to that point.

Hoosier I thought about vents but its under so many trees its not if a limb will fall but when .:shocking:
So since I have the vaulted ceiling I'm going to put a solar powered attic fan on a gable end to vent the space

I posted this in the GD section. But I got a good price on some doors and the concept seems cool although I hope I would never have damage to a door. None the less these meet code and the company is only a few miles away.

Another thing that was brought to mind was sealing of said door I have never seen a well sealed roll up so maybe some one could offer some advice

heres the link to the doors

update seems like some company's don't want to sell doors these days. but a friend of my #3 son gave me a number and wala found me someone who is on it. so now I'm having an issue deciding on what color doors I'm going with :willy_nil
they will either be a tan color close to the building or a dark color like brown or black. what do you guys think? my goal is to not make it stand out :lol_hitti and I'm loosing that battle. anyway heres a shot from the street as it stands now

Am I nuts :dunno:

Dark bronze is a good color IMO. If someone is driving by from the street, going even 10 MPH, your garage would hardly stand out.

Just poped in from Shopnuts build. Congrats on the new digs. What color will the trim be? Can you get paint to match whatever door color you choose? With the light color exterior, I'd go with a medium to dark color that compliments the main color.

I will follow along for the ride.

they showed up at 9 am and were done by 11:15. Now I feel like its getting closer 2 down 1 to go

all set for the poor :D

I hate to say but you have one more leaner tree to remove. It is not going to straighten up, get smaller or younger. I am removing a leaner cottonwood at my place that has had me concerned for some time.

Fueler trust me I know I'm more worried about a big pine tree in the back neighbors yard than I am about the oaks. this whole street is full of them lots of them towering over houses. I'll deal with it when I have to

Doors look great JC! I never thought about locking the chain with a padlock. I use the slide-bolts down at the bottom of the doors. Not sure if yours has them though.

For the chain, you can loop the slack end up and around so that one link hooks on the barb of the bracket pointing up. That's what the door guy showned me anyway and it secures the chain real good and keeps it from coming out when not wanted.

Get deal on the quad. Years of enjoyment for your son (and all of you), for sure!

Up date I know I'm slow :lol_hitti but it was a busy july I had to go to my favorite VW drag race in South Carolina  so not much other than getting some goodies

All steel man door with 4" added header non removable hinge pins.

Problem was the opening is was a 1/2 " off so I got some 1/4" x7-1/4"x 12' hardie board to take up the space .

BTW I carried 2 of these home in my 6ft bed truck and made it :dunno:

It has been suggested that I paint the door frame in single stage automotive paint which is easy to do for me anybody ever done that or am I over thinking this :headscrat

some one said paint the frame with automotive paint :lol_hitti Not a bad idea :shocking: some single stage semi gloss black shall do

Now that it was back home I was convinced we could do this our self's :dunno:
it also gave me an excuse to go buy a hammer drill

We then installed the hardie board with a good amount of liquid nails and 3/16x 1-3/4"
