next up was I need to get my floor coating down I have had this stuff sitting for a couple of months. I get a 4 day weekend every other week but I had a car show (that I had to work) and a 40 year wedding anniversary and then a good friend get married. But this weekend was dedicated to getting this done.

I want to thank scotty at legacy for putting up with my questions. I also wasn't thrilled about grinding the floor and after I took the grinder back and cleaned up I wasn't happy with how it turned out but I moved forward.

I rented the machine at 6:30pm for 4 hours which gave us all of Friday night to do it had to have it back by 9am Saturday

1st start of clean up it helped but didn't get it all

next was the shop vac. and before anyone ask I hooked the shop vac up to the grinder but it was like it turbo charged the dust it came flying out the vacuum so fast. :lol_hitti

this pic was taken after the first wash down

and then right before we were ready for primer we used a house vac and the lawn leaf blower

Me mixing the first kit of 4 up. The shop is saw cut in 1/4s so figured I had 4 kits 1 each per.

I pulled that door down to about an inch above the floor as I finished off

Sunday morning my #3 son and I were ready to tackle the base coat. the instructions say to mix this and pour it out in ribbons don't let it sit in the bucket as it will heat up. I had 4 kits of this too but it would cover more SQ foot than the primer. I did it 1 batch at a time and was happy with the results and had more left over than the primer. and when they say that stuff cooks oh boy does it. I poured the left over in a gal can and at one point was afraid it would melt :lol_hitti

now call me nuts but I had 10lbs of flake so I measured out 2.5lbs and put into a bucket figured I would do 1 square and figure it all out. I also did a test pitch on the primer to warm up my flake tossing skills :shocking:

Great progress JC. Floor is looking great. I'm digging the official Florida Garage Life wear, shorts and flip flops.

Looks like you will be ready to getr' done now that the floor is done.

I coated the first 1/4 and went to put down some flakes and quickly found out that the spike shoes and flip flops don't work well together so I had to put on some shoes

I repeated this procedure on the 2nd 1/4

I'm thinking the same thing. If JC planned it right he could end up with a bunch of moving helpers too.

I'm going to work on something for late summer early fall, get some of my VW racing buddys to bring there drag cars have a little show and shop warming party I'll invite my GJ buddies don't worry

Ok I have to admit my last update was Interrupted so I'm sorry. So a couple of pics I meant to post of doing the cove molding.

I found this $1.89 tip for the adhesive it was well worth the $ :lol_hitti

The corners were a bit tuff not much I could do chipped away as much as I could. I was being picky like I was building a car lol and my son's reminded me that it will fill up fast and you will never know.

Now for the bad news. As I have stated in this thread I have 2 brother in laws being the major part of my electrical. Just a little back ground they are brothers married to my wife's twin sisters :lol_hitti sort of kind of on one :shocking:

So BIL J is a salesman for a electrical supply house, the other M is an electrician by trade. Both were a great help in getting the power to shop and thru inspection.

I'm not sure what I did but they have both bailed on me. I'm not mad at them I understand I just wish they hadn't let me linger for a 2 months before telling me.. :dunno:

I have someone to help me but they are busy at the moment but I'm already starting to think about option C

There is a VW race every year in July in Orangeburg SC and a prerace / party concert in Charleston SC the night before. More on that later it was cool

Anyway I was told to get my race car ready for a motor by a very good friend of mine. I was dead set against any work on cars in the new shop TILL ITS DONE. I had to break my own rule :lol_hitti

I must say having to walk to the other garage to get stuff *****.

Ok, family is family. Tell the wife she's cut off until she asks the twins to tell the husbands they're cutoff until the shop is wired. :eyecrazy:

As FC assistant to the undersecretary of safety, I will have the FC-FF come and knock out the electrical for you.

As far as using the shop, just put all the tools back in other place when done prepping for race. This trial run might give you insight of how the work flow is in the new shop.

Shorty my wife has 7 sisters and 4 brothers the range from sane to insane is wide. Due to the times we all have to get together its easier if I just forget about it. And these 2 are the more sane ones :shocking:

I do think we have a plan in place to get it done

Getting ready for the race did not go well and I pulled the plug 5 days before leaving. Now I always go to this race as we go as a team. When I say team its me and 9 other cars that all run out of the same shop. Well I had a real bad week and by Thursday ( we needed to leave early Friday am) I said f it I'm not going at all. :shocking: well my wife told me the boys are going and I'm going with them :lol_hitti (she may be a keeper) Needless to say I quickly changed my mind.

So since my car is not making it we loaded up the slowest car in the fleet. #2 son's 68 beetle with a very mild 1776 and a very tall final drive ratio. It is a great street car but also happens to be very consistence when drag racing it.

Well we have some new art for the wall of the shop. Needless to say we had a great time. My grand daughters got to watch their dad win a race and I was there to see it.

You guys aren't going to believe this but finding someone to finish the electrical has been a real challenge and to the point I considered trying it my self.
In the mean time I did a few side jobs and also found out 6 VW's will fit will room to spare. I did this due to a hurricane that I'm glad to report did no damage here

I am also glad to report that while on a beer run to the local beer store in my street VW I run into a VW fan that also does electrical work and lives near by.
Now realize I'm in desperation mode on this but still very cautious but he comes by and I decide to let him do it and I will be the helper.

We now have 220v run for the compressor out back along with a shut off switch inside. plus the ceiling lights and outside lights

also during this down time my son decided he needed a bead blaster and well Snap on was pushing these at the annual dealer convention held here in Orlando. I must say this really helped with getting the electric done as we need the compressor out here.

First off, glad to see you posting again. Good job on storing the cars during the hurricane scare.

Electrical isn't the bad. Bending conduit does take some skills. You got to be happy to be moving forward. When the blast cabinet gets operational, I bring the ribs and rust, get Craig to bring the grill and we'll have a party.

Thank you guys. I was really getting a bit depressed over not getting electrical done. but now that we are back on a roll I hope to have what I call phase 1 done by Christmas. After that it will be a more usable shop. Trust me I hope to have a little shop party in the spring maybe have some of my vw buddies bring over some cool VW race & street cars have a little show. I promise I will not forget my GJ buddy's.
Taumac I have a good friend that's lives in Brooksville and works at the Ace hardware doing some engine mechanic stuff any chance you every run in to such a guy?

Love to see all the progress here JC. That shop swallows up those Beetles quite nicely! Enjoy the cool weather for your projects.

Thank you I'm happy to see some progress myself. Yes it does seem to fill up quick but we still have a lot of rearranging to do .

Now that we have power out back for the compressor I am all about getting these air lines done. I made a couple of short pieces in the attached garage and knew then we needed to make a make shift pipe threading station at the shop. I bought some cheap saw horse's , 1 2x12 the bench grinder from the attached garage. I just needed a vise :shocking: Well come to find out there is this old rusty vise out back so my son grabbed it and mounted it to the bench

I can't remember where but I think there is a web site where some people get giddy over vise's with certain names. this is a scrap yard run rescue :willy_nil maybe some air to that new glass beader will help it

Since I plan to put the compressor out back my plan is to come in at the top and run the 3/4" around the top of the inside. We drilled a pilot hole to make sure we were where we wanted to be I hole sawed it came out pretty good IMO

next was inside . I had a plan in my head and just started cutting and threading

Call me nuts but I cut, threaded and installed the entire top run only to take it down so I could primer and paint all the pipe :lol_hitti

this is the back wall and long wall after painting. I staged it as we have a crazy plan. More on that in a minute
