We built the house 8 years ago, and I had figured to build a Shop out back, then the economy went away and i was lucky to survive. ;)
I lost my mom last year "and it has taken a while and I'm still not done" but I get A small amount of $$ that will be enough for me to make this happen :lol_hitti

Since I **** at spelling i'm posting a video . tell me I'm nuts or what ever .
I have a few quotes on steel buildings
let it begin I say

Looks like a nice quiet spot back in the woods to put a shop.

I tried to save as many trees as I could when I built the Asylum and ended up regretting it. Too much worrying everytime there was a strong windstorm. I say take out any that are questionable. It also helps tremendously with keeping the roof clear of Spanish moss and junk.

Good luck with your dream. All it takes is a plan and a willingness to take that first step. The rest will sort of fall into place if you believe it can come true.

Funny when I look at you avatar I always thought the steet would be to the left and back yard to the right. View looking at the avatar.

I may have missed it but why so far back in the yard? Just asking due to cutting down that great tree, the lenght of a drive way back there if you cement it and the lenght of the power run.

Glad your getting the dream garage. looking forward to the pictures.

Well I now have some cash to help this thing along, its not much but I'm going to get the most i can from what i want to spend.

The good news is I was able to find out what I can build where i'm at .
Up to 2000 sq ft
15 ft height max
and my setbacks are 5 ft from both side and rear. :shocking: I'm planing on 20' from the side and 30' from the back so i should be good.

The bad news is I'm not allowed by county code to have "metal" siding. I was want a steel building :dunno: due to the budget.

heres the funny part my options for exterior according to the county are

Stucko,Brick, Vinyl, or aluminum :lol_hitti

I mention that aluminum is a form of metal and he told me that I need to send a rendering of what it would look like :dunno:

just an update but I am moving forward ;)

well its time to bring some life to this project. As shopnut said you have to take that 1st step. One of my hold ups was waiting on the land clearing guy hes a friend of a friend but I was told he treats friends very fair :bounce:
long story short it took more than a few months to get this guy over here.

In the mean time we had started cutting some of the small stuff down using my old pulan 18" saw till the fuel lines fell apart(thank you ethonal) it took me a while to fix the saw so the project stalled :(

Looking good. I see you're in Apopka,FL. My wife's trying to get me to move to Clermont where her folks live. She's down there for the holidays without me right now and has texted me a bunch of properties with big outbuildings. Just looking at the moment.

I've been fighting that fuel line problem on my small power equipment too - frustrating! The hoses just crumble. Looks like you have plenty of firewood now. And you guys seem to be expert fire-watchers!

Keep up the good work.

Glad to see it getting started! I'm in Apopka as well, FYI the new WAWA on 441 sells Ethanol Free gasoline.

I've had that same Stihl saw for a couple of years. It's a great saw. Mine has seen a lot of use with no problems. Good luck with your build.

I think in the video you mentioned that you were planning on removing those three large trees...what made you decide to keep them? I'd be worried sick about a large branch breaking loose and coming through the roof :(

Yes Guys the trees have been quite the delimia for me. everyone that has been on site some neighbors included didn't want to see me take down that big oak. I have a couple of other smaller ones that I'm going to take down then i'm going to rent a man lift and get up in all the trees on property and trim up some branches. As i look around there is no way of getting away from the trees so I might as well embrace them and make it work plus this is Florida in the summer I'll be happy to have the shade to cool things down

bringing this back to life. I finaly called the concrete guy that was suggested by several people I know. Well I told him I had a price on a steel building for 11k and he told me he could bet that and do the walls in block something I would much rather have.
Well he called me today told me he would do 28'x36' 16"x16" footers and 4" slab 11'4" walls for 10,500.
So now I need to check on trusses and my biggest problem is engineered drawings at a resonable price. I know a few people that may know someone but haven't made that call yet. and I'll take any advice offered here cause I've never done anything like this before.

At least I'm moving forward

I know I'm slow  But I'm also just doing my best to make sure I spend every $ wisely
Last weekend 2 of my sons (they live with us) rented the man lift. We got it froma local independant place so if we picked it up on Saturday between 11-12 we have it till Monday for the same price as 1 day $175 :rocker:

So since there was concern about limbs falling I think we took care of that for at least a few years

Looks like you and the boys had fun with that man lift.

Its going to be a great setting back there for that shop! Its nice that there's minimal Spanish moss hanging on the trees - it can make a real mess on the roof (and everywhere else!). It takes me 2 hours raking up all the moss before I can even begin to start mowing my place.

Ok guys My concrete guy went MIA for a month but he showed back up yesterday and things will be moving forward SOON.
My big question I have is I planed 2 10x10 roll up doors on the 28' wide if i went with 2 8x8 doors I can gain side space with the 10x10 I'll have about 4' on each side with the 8x8 it would be about 6'
So what do you think leave it as planed 10x10 or change it?

Will you have any other roll up doors other than these?

I have 8' wide doors on my shop, mainly due to the existing structure as it was built. They are too small for me. If you have a vehicle close to the opening, it's cramped to get around.
I hear you about the wall space, it's a premium in my shop, my shop is also 28' wide. With that width, and if you don't mind the two sizes, a 10' and a 8'?

I have 9x8 doors on both the house garage and my garage, they work fine for me. What's the largest vehicle going in/out of the garage ?

Glad to hear the shop is getting under way.

You're making the right choice with 10' wide doors and you'll be much happier with them. I have two 8 footers and I wish the one in front wall where I drive vehicles through was at least 9' wide.

I can drive through my 10' doors with my eyes closed :)

I know my nickname is quick but this has been one of the slowest projects ever.
But I'm happy to report we have progress, lots of progress.

first let me just say as a complete idiot trying to be the home owner/GC is a challenge. But I refused to give up and got my permit. now my challenge is making sure its done right (I hope)
First we shot the site thought we were going to have to bring in fill but lucked out and was able to just move some dirt around

and then I went and purchased all the rebar and form boards using my race car trailer

then it all got layed out and some footers dug
