I bet that Bug is just itching to get in there!!! I hope you didn't go too heavy on the pest pretreatment! :)

Thank you shopnut if that one doesn't start behaving it my be left out side :scared: and I used the same pest control company that did my house when it was built. and best part was House was due for the annual $95 bond inspection ;) . But I know what you mean when those walls got up I really 2nd guess myself on those trees  . the good thing is all the construction workers so far have enjoyed the shade. And a few beers at the end of the day

I did get a kick out of the delivery driver for the block as I was standing in the house garage watching on one of his return trips he stopped shut the machine off and looked at me say "let me guess you have a VW fetish" :scared: I told him I wanted to be able to double stack them
:D

I was up taking photos of the Rebar around the lintels and all that I can during this build n :bounce: I thought this shot was good :3gears: gives a perspective of the 11'4" walls and its placement on the lot

After inspection we were clear to pump the Lintels and the walls where the rebar tied to the slab. note the wet look

The trusses are due in about 2 weeks till then its finish cleaning up some small trees

we had a plan all worked out to get the trusses up and sheeting on. Unfortunately Good ole Florida weather interupted our plans
But we did get all the trusses up and about 1/3rd of one side of the sheeting

Saturday was a 30% chance of rain .....it rained all day mostly a drizzle and the trees provided shelter. Sunday called for 50% rain and it was sunshine all day long but we had already canceled the attempt to finish it on Saturday so my sons cleaned up a bit so we can be ready for round 2 plus these are better daylight pictures

It's really taking shape there JC. Good luck getting the rest of the roof done. There is some nice weather heading to FL, so you should be in luck.

Ok hit a snag and still don't quite get it :lol_hitti and after sending this to several people 1 has explained it to me :lol_hitti I think :lol_hitti
(BTW he told me when the crew shows up he would explain it over the phone)

So just want to confirm how stupid I am here on a public forum I present a picture of the building and the drawings for the gables.

Let the lashing begin

I'm not a truss expert (clearly), but your "gable" end trusses don't look like gable trusses. Is the expectation that someone is going to 'engineer' the gable trusses onsite?

Yes that does seem to be a hold up right now I tried to post a pic of the designed way its supposed to be but you can't see it.
I'm told and have confirmed this with the building department that due to the fact its a vaulted truss ceiling the end truss also has to be. Basically we have to but a "knee wall" on each end and tie it all in. It all has to do with wind load specs. :dunno: I have someone lined up that knows what to do but his father died a few days ago so I'm on hold
I also learned that I can get a parcel inspection on my roof sheeting so I can get it dried in which will put me at ease for the moment ;)

Update Time:shocking:

Progress has been made, not as much as I would like but progress.

While I was waiting I decided to seal and prime the outside. I use Sherwin williams loxon XP that was tinted to the color of my house. I love my paint sprayer it was a GJ recommended purchase some years ago.

and the best update of all is we are very close to sheeting the ends. Still have a few X braces that they want above the doors. If I had known what this vaulted ceiling was going to I wouldn't have done it. :lol_hitti But I'm happy to report the friend came thru and its getting done. PT2x8's redheaded and hurricane strapped to the header(not required but they were there), double 2x8's attached to the trusses then 2x8 blocking on 24" centers(?0 then we add more straps.

The plus side to this is the guy doing it works for a home builder and knows the inspector.

You'll enjoy the extra room the vaulted ceiling affords you, I'm sure.

Looking good!

The gable knee wall looks quite sturdy. You'll love having the vaulted ceiling once it's complete. Since you sealed the exterior block walls already, I assume it's going to be exposed block rather than stucco?

Thanks shopnut. I think some of my issues is if I had done it flat it would be done by now. I'm sure once its done I'll be happy

Yep I hate stucco I feel its a coverup for bad block work :shocking: I had to pay a little extra for the strike work on the outside only. the inside they did smooth and kind of wish I had done that on the outside as well. But that's another oh well. :headscrat

I'm ready to get it done but still have along way to go. And if I pull this off for my budget I'll be real surprised :bounce: and happy

this seems like over kill to me but its what the plans called for :lol_hitti
The guy helping us is done he came out showed us how to finish it. I'm a little disappointed but I understand. My boys said they got it. But sunday they both got a bit frustrated while doing the x bracing on the rear wall. So I may see if I can find someone to finish it. We aren't construction workers by any means :lol_hitti

I do need some suggestions as to what to finish the cable ends with? I was thinking either hardie board or vinyl siding of some sort

JC, looks like you have the bracing close. The truss layout plan should indicate exactly how it should be braced.
It's been a while since I've done one, but I remember my trusses having the x bracing and it called for dianglenal brace under the top cord from center down to the wall.
I had regular trusses where you have the vaulted, and changes to code I'm sure makes bracing different now.
Post up your truss plans if you can.

Cb that's what I tried to do above but it didn't work out. The designers are also the truss company they admitted to having the wrong detail on the plans. The revised ones were confusing as well. The guy I had come over and do what has been done Knows the inspector so we are clear on what he is looking for. I HOPE :dunno: he also called the truss company.

I ended up paying him and his son $350.00 for what they did plus he left me his saw and borrowed the scaffolding from a friend that I know as well. So far I'm pretty happy just want to get it closed in fast

You're getting there, good progress . I like it a lot and am very curious what you're going to do on the inside.

once its closed in 1st the floor, then the ceiling after that it may take some time but in my head is a beam running across the back part that I can use for storage over head and a clean room for engine building. I figured it will take a while to finish the walls

Well sometimes you need a little luck. A friend that owns the scaffolding I'm using called me the other day and said he had a friend that needs a VW engine built and wanted to know if I was interested in swapping out some labor :D needless to say I jumped all over that. He came out took a look and a deal was made. He finished the x bracing and closed in the ends. He was not in agreement with how the 1st guy started the front end but since it was started he finished it that way but when he did the back he did it his way. It doesn't matter as I'm planning on putting either vinyl siding or hardy board over it anyway. But at least now it starting to look like a building :shocking:

One of the things guy#1 did was remove the blocking from the roof and put the plywood behind it then made new ones and reinstalled guy #2 notched the plywood and went around them. I don't think it really matters its all going to be covered by soffit

That would be a simple roof to do metal on.

Did you already buy shingles? I know metal is more costly, but it's a long life roof.

Just about have my shop roof done in the galvalume. Bought from Gulfcoast supply .com.

About $ 2900.00 to do my my 28' x 38' shop plus a 12 ' overhang.

No I haven't purchased yet. the other problem with the metal roof is installing it correctly. We are car people here so construction is difficult without a leader. We have a shingle crew on stand by. :) trust me I really wanted the metal roof but at this point I need to cut some cost to stay in budget :shocking:

Hardy lap siding would look good. I like the relatively new T1-11 patterned panels. The ones that look like they are made out of OSB with extra resin on the money side.

I'm surprised you didn't stucco the outside.

I'll have to look into that need some thing that is simple to install for an amature :lol_hitti

I hate stucco that's why I paid extra to get the outside struck
