with a junction box each conductor needs I believe 2.5 cu in of area and the grounds need 2.5. what are considered conductors both the black and white?
so if I have 2, 12 -2 romax wires running into a j-box I have used up 12.5 cu in of my box?

Correct. Except 12 guage is 2.25 cu in. 10 guage is 2.5. 14 guage is 2.0
