I was doing research on four post lifts when I came across this site. I wish I had found it earlier. I'm a 56 year-old carpenter (currently out of work) living in a place where everyone else goes for vacation. I started my dream shop/garage project in 2007, out-of-pocket and in my spare time. Ended up refinancing the home to keep the project going. Got the roof on,siding on, purchased my dream car, and the economy went to hell. I managed to finish the garage so the car had a home, but the rest has been slow. The building is 40' x 90'. Garage is 40' x 30', shop is 40' x 40', office/apartment is 20' x 40'. (I told you it was my DREAM shop). I'm now working on the woodshop area, trying to get to a functional stage without cutting corners (something I've built a reputation on). I ran 6" PVC pipe (dust collector), 3/4" conduits (power), and 1/2" PVC (air lines) under my slab to all my planned machine placements (hate all the overhead stuff). Also ran 1/2" PEX tubing 12" OC throughout the shop and apartment slab (electric space heater in the garage). I'll try to post some pics. Looking forward to searching out new info from all of you. Look me up if you're ever in my area.

Welcome.

Don't tell people it went slow, just say you did it on "Island time".

Great looking shop.

Welcome!

That's a nice looking shop, I like the location too.

6" PVC? Sounds like you're planning a good sized dust collection system!

Ahh, those are a nice collector from what I've read. The reason why I was asking about the duct sizing is because, as you're probably aware, sizing the duct too large will result in solids dropping out of the flow. Sounds like you've got it all figured though.

I'm still running a portable 1.5HP collector, so I went with a 4" duct sizing for my shop as 6" would probably result in solids "sand barring" inside the ductwork. Just haven't found a good deal on a cyclone yet. :)

The key word in my previous post was "planning". I can't afford the ClearVue right now either. Just trying to get the 'shop' space operational.

Welcome to GJ, John. I have an architect friend that moved from Florida to WI a few years ago. Small world.

Shop sounds great. Good ideas. Nice lighting. Nice progress.

BTW, just a heads up, don't mention "PVC" and "air lines" in the same sentence anywhere else in GJ. There have been heated discussions of experience of past PVC failures under those conditions... Just a heads up....

EDIT: BTW, What is your 'dream car' you aquired?

Was in Bellingham over the weekend for a soccer tournament. My son and his wife lived in Bremmerton while she was in the Navy. My son commuted by bike and the ferry to the University of Washington. Been close for soccer matches (Bainbridge, Kingston) but never on Whidbey Island. We're living in the American Vancouver, just over the border with Portland, Or. Lots of good stuff here enjoy yourself.
