As some of you know,I am self-employed,and part of my job is buying unclaimed storage units at auction. Well today I went to a location that had 3-units up,and (2) belonged to the same guy who passed away and his family did not want to pay his bills.

The first unit up I tried getting,but it wasn`t all that special,a 10x10 with stuff scattered around inside. I saw a Snap-On radio in-the-box,and a few other things...most of which I bought off of the guy that won the unit anyways. Well the second unit was a different story,it was a 10x30 outside.....the first picture is what my eyes were drawn to when the door popped open,the second is after I cleared away a few things and got inside the unit after I bought it.

Can I hire you to come and clean my father's garage out? You can keep whatever you want as long as it's down to bare walls/floor when your done - I just don't have the motivation, time or energy to do stuff like that.

Dad lives in St. Louis - might be too far from where you are. He has a 3-car garage that's packed, whatever's in the back hasn't been see or touched in 30+ years, if not longer... last time I saw the attic space it was also packed to the rafters.

Used to make good money doing that stuff until it came on TV. Now people think no Matter how much you spend you will always make money.

Nice score, but going to these type sales around me is like sticking your head in a bees nest. I went to one a few months ago with my buddy and saw about ten people bidding over a cardboard box. It went for $200 and was filled with BS worthless knick knacks. People believe TV too much. Let's bring back real ***** and fake TV.:rocker:

They are starting to come back around,most everyone got their taste and got burned...and now it is starting to settle back down. I scored one a few months back full of quality contractors tools,and everything was like-new. The other regulars/veterans backed off of it...but a newb ran me up.

Yeah, my little brother tried that for a while. Said that he had to buy 25+ units to find ONE thing that wasn't straight up junk in the whole lot

First edition Great Gatsby sounds like a find, I am an Hemingway man myself though.

We bought 3-units a couple years back that were FULL of New Old Stock Packard parts...that was a sweet score,along with tons of shop equipment. I still have a wall of hardware bins filled with hardware in my garage along with a Miller spot welder, a parts washer,etc,etc,etc from that score.

But I would not do that one again,the guy that lost the stuff found me selling his stuff online and made my life a living hell. Wasn`t my fault he lost his stuff.

+1. Today's $500-1000 was $1-300 not even a decade ago now. You can still make a decent buck if youre careful, but the days of getting a storage "shop" full of truck brand tools for <$200 are over. Too many people doing this as a business now, so even the junk lockers that never got bids before now get sold. I remember many auctions where out of 10 lockers, only 2 would sell bc most of the household **** just wasnt worth anybody's effort.

The one I get a giggle out of is when an auctioneer sells storage units based off pics from their auction house or the lockers were opened pre-auction for "advertisement pics" and people "trust" that they didnt sort through them looking for valuables.
