Began building a week ago last monday. Had the framing and sheathing done in 5 days. Basically me and my friend. With a couple of guys thrown in here and there. Hired a crane to place the trusses.

Start shingling the roof this weekend.

Nice Place and it surely is going up quickly.

I'm guessing 24' by 30' with 11' walls????? Plans for a lift? What's going to be stored/worked on inside?

Nice progress. That's going to be a great space when you're done. How do you plan on using the upstairs?

Yes sir SHaronto be exact. It snowed on us all day tuesday which was day 2 of the project. Mother nature kicked our butts that day! It was a wet clingy snow and it just wouldnt stop. We finally gave up about 1 pm so we lost 1/2 a day really. Not bad for 2 guys.

24 X 32 actually. 10"8' walls plus another 5.5 feet in vaulted ceiling just in case I want to work on a double decker bus or something!

I'm sure I'll be working on the Z, plus my son is into cars and he's always building and blowing something up. I'm designing radiant heat for the floor. It's a closed system, I'll use a hot water heater for a heat source.

The polaris is a large volume unit. Their smallest one is 100,000 btus. Way more than I need.

A buddy on the corvette forum suggested this unit:

Being a Vette owner has its advantages :)

The model is a A.O. Smith BFC-50. (L.P.) propane fired. I would also recommend a TEKMAR hot water reset controller that will vary you water temperature based on the outdoor air temperature. ex. If it is 0 degrees out, you water heater puts out 140 degree water. If it is 40 degrees out, your water heater puts out 110 degree water for futher energy savings.
It has a sealed burner source so it doesnt create spark or have an open flame, which is importatnt if your garage has gas fumes, (and whose doesn't!) or will store flammables. This will prevent the possibility of fire i'm told.

What are the plans for the loft area, storage? or work space?
Just storage, for oem parts, lawn furniture in winter etc. It will have a knee wall on the back wall which will allow you to look out of the loft to the rest of the garage. The lift will be down in the back so when I raise the car I should be able to get in the trunk or under the hood if I need to! it will all depend on the length of the car. :3gears:

wondering if the second attic level floor has enough strength for everyday use, it looks as if its only 2x4 truss joists

Any idea on cost for that unit? I have LP fired Bradford White 50 and it's not very efficient for what I need.

Just Kidding, stopped by and saw John at LOMOTION CORVETTE in pleasant Valley/ Wappingers falls in NY Saturday. Shot the $h!T for a while and got a free tshirt. Stop by and say hello, he's a great guy. Lots of pix and stuff. Bruce HArlan was in there in July when they had the big National Corvette Museum display over at Lime Rock. He drove his prototype 06 Z06 in there and took some pictures in the showroom.

Ready for the doors!

Ready for garage doors! trimmed out the wondows and the garage door openings today. Finished the hurricane clips and all the truss bracing. Should I wait until the floor is poured before I wire and insulate??

The only reasons I can think of waiting to wire is that (1) if you want a certain height for the outlet boxes. That will depend on the floor height, which technically can change until the floor is poured... Or (2) yo have to run conduit through the slab.

Insulation can be installed at any time, however if you want to keep the slab a little warmer while it drying, insulate first.

You do have to wire BEFORE you insulate though since the inspector will need to see the wires, stapling, etc.

Got The Doors On Finally

Got the doors set. Had to pile some blocks under the doors because the floor isn't poured yet, but at least we'll keep the weather out until the spring.

If you are planning for a lift, you might want to put industrial can lights in the floor. They work alot better than a drop light.

I did some Internet research on this very subject a few months back. I found this site which seems perfect:

http://www.tahoelighting.com/store2.asp?Category=PavingLightsandInConcreteLighting

About half way down this web page you'll these in-concrete lights are available in an 8-light kit (also 14 lights but that seems way over-kill.). You have the option of three different shapes for the lights: sqaure, rectangular and octogonal.

My plan is to buy the 8-light kit and position them so 4 are in a square or diamond pattern under the front half of my (eventual) 2-post lift. The other four light would be similarly positioned under the rear half of the lift.

The 8-light kit is $262. It comes with everything you need to light the underneath of your car. NOTE: you will need to order what Tahoe calls pre-forms for each lamp you are going to install. The pre-form is a disposable form that you place around each lamp fixture before you pour the floor. The pre-form is then removed from the dried concrete floor leaving a properly sized hole for the finisher pieces of the system.

No affiliation with Tahoe adn I have never used them.
