Plane Crazy,
That is friggin smart! I live north of Nashville in Portland, TN on the KY state line, and I have never seen someone use (what most people call) junk and turn it into something so great! How does the wife handle it? Especially taking 4 years (I think i read it took that long)??!! I like the way you think man! I like the old Mopars too (cuda and satellite) Please tell me you had to get those the old fashion way and didn't take those home from work too.....cause if you did, i am switching career fields!!

one of the coolest ideas for a shop so far that ive seen. when will you be finished with it? the thing about your place that is so interesting is what you used to make the garage & how creative you are! sure, we all drool over the garages that look like they came from a magazine but ones like this are in my book better! love how you are building this from scratch.

As so many others have said: This is the coolest idea for a shop I have ever seen!!!

You may have to start selling tickets and conducting tours of the place!

I now have a full-on case of garage/shop envy!

Thats super nice. What did you have to pay for an old plane?

I'm just a "worker" bee
bartered- LOTS of labor, use of man lifts, cranes, lift truck etc
paid for cutting fluid/blades, fuel, moving permits, etc

So, I really don't know, except what a building this size would cost.

I drove my wife to work today from Portland to Nashville. Snow ***** without plow trucks running. Though I have never seen I65 with only 5 cars on it!! Enjoy the warmth of your shop!! Where are you going to test and tune at??

looks like 1 to 1 odds :bounce:I'm in the Nashville,tn area Just found out another DC-10 is available in 3 weeks, I have to finish this DC-8 first

Too cool. Greetings from Bowling Green, Ky. You know, the place the Tennessee people shop to escape the high sales tax! I worked at the BWG airport for several years and never knew that the Nashville/Smyrna area had an aircraft boneyard. It's been 20+ years since I worked at the airport - did it start up in that time?

 You go guy! Too cool. Got to love your imagination. More pics please.

Spoke in other thread about our garagemajal (husband and wife's creation) and said I would post photos. We are liking your imagination as pilot husband and wife decided to aviation theme our garagemajal. As building was very high due to center lift, we determined that a loft was there for the building. End result 15' X 15' loft which was turned into media room complete with LCD wall mounted telly with all the bells and whistles. Seating is 4 sets of first class seats from a Delta 737. Yep, phones in center, trays that pull up, seats that recline, etc. Never, never go the local boneyard!

Never realized how much fun it would be to spend the kid's inheritance!

Now you know why we are so impressed with your imagination. One query: Are you going to have the lavatory function? :lol_hitti:

Haven't been here in awhile
had alot going on
tornado, then
Major Flood May 2010 (Nashville.tn)
Mom's house flooded
Then she passed june 17 , 2010
the economy etc

Things are looking up now...

Have been busy in the shop
building a Car hauler for the Rampage/
That build is here
http://ramchargercentral.com/diesel-talk/1973-cummins-hauler/

since we are so cheap:bounce:
got rid of the propane
am now running a waste oil heater
stays toasty warm , burns 4/5 of a quart per hour

004rrrr.jpg

555.jpg

Did get the leg less work tables built
4' off the floor, 2' wide and 30' long
down both sides

Same old recycled story
used 2x12 and left over panels from a store that the tornado took out
a counter top that was thrown out
and angle iron that got twisted and thrown out.
we cut out the good parts

Very very cool! I love this stuff, and you show some enginuity!

By the way, excellent use of a Rampage! I had one once, and the last thing I thought of it was drag car!
