Awesome thread man. I would have never thought a person would be allowed to take planes like that. Very nice

It's really not easy. LOTS of paper work, hazmat regs, transport permits and routes. plus equipment: cranes, shear, trucks, trailers,,,, lots of blades:bounce:
My partner and I have over 20yrs./ cutting

This pic is the jaw of the shear( repairing a leaking ram on top) We can't get any fluids on the ground (ramp area)/ Hazmat regs.

not much to report- laid the sealer down today, worked on framing the entrance ramp, will be finishing the man door install, and end wall, left it out to get the back hoe and concrete truck in.

got a little done today- hung the man door, removed the forms, formed up the rear ramp, header installed, gonna get the roll up doors installed tommorrow.

yea the doors are dirty- everything was recycled except the gravel and concrete.
the post were from a large machine shipping crate
the sheet metal was from a storage building- extras
nothing a pressure wash and paint can't fix..

I can see you are putting your end closures behind a structural rib, but how do you seal out the weather around the perimeter, especially with the ribbed tin? Caulk the snot out of it?

Are you a greenie? Please say no. You recycle planes into useful sheds. Make utilitarian bicycles into cool motorized bikes and built my kind of exercise bike. Dude, you're awesome!!!!!

the siding is trimed up tight against the arch, very little space.
the outer air plane skin is also cut to provide a over hang to keep weather out.

Way cool Roadrunner. Does it run on corn or the good smelling fuel?

LOL It's a wanta be roadrunner--
it's really a 4-door Satellite with a 440
set back 12"
runs 7.38 at 93.2mph.---1/8 mile
..drinks race fuel
don't need no pretty paint job to go fast:bounce:

still raining on and off,
did get the entrance and exit ramps poured, (seen one seen them all)
had some extra so poured what was left for the tool shed,
atleast now can get the mowers in there too.
seems didn't have EXTRA enough...:lol_hitti

really wish I could pressure wash and paint the plane., if it will ever stop raining

Thanks for sharing all the info on this transformation. The building reminds me of a quonset hut we had where I used to work. One thing for sure, you'll have plenty of windows in that shop! I really enjoyed reading this thread.

Plane Crazy, I saw this same type of building when I was out at one of the boneyards in Arizona in 2004. The company was needing to build a woodworking shop to fabricate custom shipping fixtures and pallets.

They went out and cut up a 747-200 Freighter. Forward end of the shop was the aft wheelwell bulkhead frame and the other end was the aft pressure bulkhead break ring, 747 Section 46. They cut the fuselage just below the main deck floor beams and lifted it off with a couple of big forklifts.
Moved it to its new location and hooked up the power.

They left the main deck side cargo door attached and converted the actuator to 220VAC. Left the production floor panels installed and closed the ends in with lumber and siding. Hung a few lights and bingo...... instant shop.

Keep up the good work recycling that old fatigued aluminum.

My neighbors would show up in the middle of the night with pitchforks and torches.

Looks good though--Are you going to run one strip of lights down the center, or two strips down the ceiling, somewhere between the windows and the center?

Dude....you are now my personal hero.

I was thinking about making a woodshop out of a couple of old school bus bodies, but this is....just....well....dude...you are now my personal hero.

+50!

Hasn't everyone on this site dreamed of doing something like this? Problem is, most of us don't have the land or the means to actually do it.

Wish my grandfather was still around to see this. He worked for McDonell Douglas in Long Beach California & helped build the first generation DC-10's.

Quick question for you - My dad used to work for the Memphis group - breaking down planes in Greenwood airport in Mississippi. What airport do you operate out of?

Those windows give some awesome light! Very cool!

I was looking at the Satellite engine, and was cool to see under the car with Natural light. Should work out great with the car 2 feet, in the air..

You plan on making another trip to FL and cruising the beaches? You rode right by my house.

Your garage is awesome and definitely a great way to continue the life of something going to be scrap.

Next time I'm headed that way, I'll E-mail you, and bring a extra bike or two.
going to pennsacola, next week.

When we go out of town (work)
I take 3 bikes for riding, rather than walking from ramp to hanger,
sometimes can be a LONG ways.
also great for gittin around town, instead of using the gas hog trucks..
