more progress on my car. looks like they decided to drop the k member to mount the engine to it

its a Traction Control Switch panel for the 4thgen console. The switch hole will be filled with a convertible top switch repurposed for an electric cutout. And well, you can see where the boost gauge ended up.

4thgen fuel tank prepped and ready for install. Includes a pair of walbro 255 fuel pumps set up by Lonnies Performance, and custom -8 feed and -6 return lines. Primary pump runs 100% of the time, secondary pump is activated by a hobbs switch which turns on that pump at 4 pounds or more of boost.

Off to the fabricators it goes

He will make:

-4" cold air induction
-Hook up my exhaust
-Custom baffled reservoir to hold engine and supercharger coolant
-Windshield washer reservoir (maybe)
and probably some other stuff I've forgotten

Did some more work in my garage recently....added some blinds to the windows! Keeps the UV rays off my cars and posters, and keeps any pesky eyes from wandering. Pardon the mess...i've been working on my 67 a bit in my free time so the garage is a little askew

The blind on the door is actually magnetic, from Lowes! The top part attaches to the door, and the blinds hang down into some brackets on the bottom. This set isn't made to go up or down, but they open like normal blinds.

So I heard from the fabricator that after 3 and a half weeks (3 weeks of not even touching my car) the EXHAUST is done, and nothing else. Here is a clip of the bill for the work done so far

I'm so LIVID right now! I've asked this man THREE times for a quote and always heard "yeah ok I will" and then this bill gets dropped on me. Not to mention the exhaust still isn't done! Oh no, there will be another $220 in labor added on to the bill tomorrow!! Yep, thats right. He wants to charge $2561.45 to make a Y pipe and install a catback.

HOLY. ****. I haven't been this pissed in a long time.

I'm leaving my house at 5am tomorrow to go down there and crack some skulls together.

love your garage, the only thing i cringed at was seeing that LS1 on that 3 wheel engine stand... being a VW guy i have seen my fair share of toppled engine stands of the 3 wheeled variety, and broken weber manifolds.... etc etc.. anyways , love your garage!

He's 40 hours into an exhaust system?

That sucker better be 500' long with a joint every 6", all tig welded to have that kind of time info it.

Go kick some *** man. That's straight BS.

Alright....

so about 9:30 am I show up at PCM of NC and see Kelly. She said she saw the bill I got and was going to go see the car and why it was so much money. We went over there together to check it out.

Tom was there and showed me the car which was on the lift and being worked on. What I saw was a piece of art! I somehow have more ground clearance with my lowered 3rdgen with longtubes and 4" exhaust than a stock 3rdgen has. I was impressed!

My spohn crossmember was removed from the car, and Tom had to custom make a new crossmember or else the exhaust never would have fit. Its hard to explain how he made the crossmember. Hell, it was hard to even SEE the crossmember...it was tucked right up in the trans tunnel.

The headers had v band clamps installed on them, and the lowest part of the collector barely hangs below the frame of the car...this really surprised me.

Off the headers he used a pair of 3"-3.5" oval adapters, into a 3.5" oval Y and mated it to the over the axle pipe which was left round.

Wouldn't you know I forgot my damn camera! So I went back to the first shop, got my camera and some parts, then went back to Toms. Here are the pics I took, in no particular order

As you can see there are a ton of measurements, tiny pieces, tack welds etc he has a ton of time into this exhaust, and a huge chunk into the crossmember....it all fits TIGHT.

Its amazing quality and probably worth every penny of what he's charging, but I never would have authorized him to do it. Even PCM of NC told him he dropped the ball and should have called me,

One of the main reasons I'm not still livid is Tom seems pretty interested in trading my T56 swap I have for sale towards a big chunk of this bill. If he will do that, I will be a happy customer.

still wish it would have been better, but live and learn.

he had some special race corvette in his shop for restoration. Said its worth about $5 million bucks. So far he has 1600 hours into it, at $55 per hour...thats $88,000 in LABOR ONLY

ridiculous

Just an update. ...I received a new bill thursday. My car is almost done and aside from the exhaust, the fabricator spent most of this week on my car and the new bill was less than the first. This makes me much happier....he likely cut the exhaust bill in half then added time for the rest of the work he did this week. Very happy that he made things right

Fabricator is done with my car and its going to the tuner today! Here are some more pics I got

-4thgen washer bottle is between the headlights now
-next to radiator cap is a silver overflow cylinder
-far left is the supercharger overflow
-CAI will be removed and powdercoated black to match everything else

Here you get another view of the engine bay...its a little more completed now

After my car is done, it goes to the body shop for some touch up under the hood and it will be finished.

I'm going to see the fabricator thursday and settle with him, and go to the tuner to see my car.

Went to see my car today. Fabricator ended up ****** me for $4300 in the end. Traded him a T56 I had towards the bill so its not TOO bad but damnit I wish he told me how much it was going to cost. Between RPM transmissions quote going from $350 to $3000, and this magic fabrication bill of $4300 I'm WAY overbudget....but I think the car is in the home stretch.

So, on to the good news. The work looks amazing and couldn’t be better. I’ve taken some pics:

Aftercooler for the supercharger

Passenger front fender. This is where the cold air intake starts, and you can see the supercharger coolant pump. This will all be covered by a plastic valence

Crossmember is complete, painted, and installed with a new mount

Custom driveshaft loop

Fuel pump relays

I haven't heard of much progress here lately. Looks like they're busy working on a bunch of other cars :( I did get a photo of some of my parts that were powdercoated like the CAI and upper radiator shroud

Guess that leak!

Supercharged LS1 swap 1989 Formula 350 Coolant Leak from Exhaust Bolt - YouTube

they said it was likely a "bad casting" Lots of people are thinking that either the bolts are too long (doubt it, they should be ARP exhaust bolts) or maybe someone drilled out a bolt previously and went too far.

PCM of NC said:
This is in no way related to the porting and polishing, as that area is far away from it. It is most likely just a bum casting where the material is too thin. We can try putting thread sealant on the bolt and see if that takes care of it. There are also cooling system tabs available but we are not keen on using those. A third option would be to try welding it all up and redrilling/tapping the hole. If this were my car I would probably start with putting thread sealant on the bolt and seeing how that goes. How would you like to proceed?

Look how nice and clean that ****** looks now. Did you have it powder coated as well? Clear or Silver? Thanks and congratulations on such a cool build.

Nice garage, car thread. Sign is awesome! Thread sealant ( not Teflon tape) should work on that exhaust bolt. I think your fab charges are outrageous, especially without an estimate or approval. We had a 3" SS dual exh system with an x-pipe built for an LS3 1967 Nova that fits as tight as yours, looks 100% better and only cost $1700. Looks like intentions were good, even with the ****** X-member, but even it looks crude with pits in ground down welds at the joints. Hope your fuel and brake lines don't heat soak too bad. Thanks for sharing your builds.

Damn. Way off. I went back and basically speed read this whole thread again to see why my guess was so low. Tune, cam, intake, exhaust, super charger made 657 to the wheels? Who tuned that baby? God? Haha! Glad I went back through it and saw the garage build again. Definitely an awesome space that you transformed to be better. Good work and enjoy trying to keep traction!
