Thanks guys. Not a whole lot of progress recently. Painting the trim around the doors/windows tonight and touching up some messy spots. Hope to paint the ceiling tomorrow and start cleaning my pontiac sign!

I hope to get it hung this weekend :)

Walls, ceiling, and trim are all done! Just have to cut in the edge by the ceiling.

Paint is 99% done. My buddy came over today and we got all the electrical 100% buttoned up. I just need to get some new switches and wall plate covers.

Also hung the 2x4s needed for my sign. I'll paint them soon and hope to get the sign hung next weekend. Just need to figure out to light, or not to light.

This garage is KILLING ME! The ceiling in particular.

1 coat of primer
1 coat of sand paint. It still looks bad, so:
1 coat of white paint. I can still see dark spots so:
1 coat of "goes on pink, dries white" ceiling paint

but now I have dark pink spots on the ceiling. AAHHHHHH

SO I guess maybe the FIFTH time is the charm? I'm debating even using this pink **** upstairs in my loft.

I have some more pictures! These are from the past weekend. All outlets are installed. Ceiling fans are installed
IMG_20130122_184447.jpg

2x4 are installed on back wall. This is where the sign will go
IMG_20130122_184445.jpg

Here is the loft....I used some leftover "Sandstone" paint I had from when I bought my house and did some repainting
IMG_20130122_202706.jpg

IMG_20130122_202725.jpg

It will dry a few shades lighter. I had enough time to trim around the window and doors and ceiling. Left the "cow heater" on overnight to dry the paint.

By the way, that "paints on pink, dries white" ceiling paint is a HOAX!! I have pink splotches on my damn ceiling downstairs. Looks like I'm returning the 2 gallons I have left, for more flat white, and I get to paint the ceiling a SIXTH time. This is insane. I'm about to blow the garage to pieces.

Oh Gawd don't do that!!! :scared:

Just remember it will all be worth it in the end and you won't have to repaint for a long time. It looks great, keep up the good work!

Have you turned off all the lights and used a flashlight to look for the dark spots? They could be shadows.

Started cleaning my sign up tonight. There is some dirt and mold inside that I'm sweeping out with a brush and vacuum.

IMG_20130123_191111.jpg

I'm also removing the broken neon, hold downs, and the heavy (20 pounds) transformers.
IMG_20130123_191123.jpg

Should have it cleaned by tomorrow, and will bring it home.

Justin, Great build/renovate. Do you live on the Lake? We have been to SML many times. Bernards landing is where we usually stay. We do the Poker Run in May. Keep the pictures coming.

Cool 50, THANK YOU! I will be contacting him about his supplies and where he got them :)

Addiction, yes/no. I have a house near White House that has lake access. I rent that one out. My actual house is off Diamond Hill Rd. Being from upstate NY, I never knew that a place where its 60 and sunny in february existed! HAHA

OK so I went back to paint the garage again today. The ceiling downstairs actually looks OK now, so I wont be repainting it again (Thank God!). My buddy came to help me today, so the ceiling is now trimmed in, and all my touch up is done on the walls an stripes.

Upstairs I painted the ceiling. i'll do the trim tomorrow and the upstairs will be done. Just some very minor touch up downstairs and that will be done. I'm thinking 2 more nights tops!

:needpics:

I actually got some things done today in the garage since it got above 30 degrees today! This is what it looked like when I got in there this morning. I really need to get some of this **** done! The honda needs a master cylinder so I can sell it. The engine needs to get on the stand so I can get it ready to go in the boat. The insulation needs to magically end up in between the rafters (I'm afraid of heights).

Thanks guy I appreciate the enthusiasm. Kind of makes it all worth it a little more :) I'll have better pics soon with my digital camera, instead of my phone lol. Next weekend for sure hope to have my pontiac sign up. Just have to contact some vendors tomorrow about led strip lights and whatnot

Well I talked to the nice people at BirdDog Distributing and I ordered a whole pile of LEDs (with 8000 different colors to choose from) some remotes, power supplies, and other stuff. Looks like my sign will be lit after all!!

Today is supposed to be about 60 degrees out, so I plan on finish painting tonight FINALLY! That leaves me the next couple nights to buckle down and finish cleaning the sign.

What kind of paint are you using?

Edit * - Nevermind. Just went back through the thread. . .you get what you pay for.

Got some more done today.

1. Installed my ceiling fan upstairs
2. Installed second exterior light on back wall of garage to illuminate the deck
3. Installed front facing motion light to illuminate driveway
4. Figured out how to light my LED's
IMG_20130202_123308_zps704696aa.jpg

Got my Pontiac sign hung, but not lit.
IMG_20130202_152105_zpsbe0a5236.jpg

I ran into a problem. The red lenses have a white border that wraps around the exterior edges and provides a "finished" border look on the front, but it extends to the rear of the lens and provides a mounting point to the tin. Well, the entire border is destroyed and I never noticed it until now. Looks like I have to strip it all off. This will leave me with only a red lens that is the same size as the tin sign, and no way to mount it. Ideas?

Thanks :)

That's going to be fabulous when you're done.

Great job saving a piece of history . . . you'll be ONLY garage with PONTIAC light, to go along with the cars!!

You may have to take on another project . . . . classic GTO for one of your kids??

I didn't even have a place to put it when I bought it. I just knew I had to save it! Just worked out great that I have a perfect spot for it now :)

funny thing, we put the O up 90* the wrong way and it was taller than the P. We scratched our heads a bit, then I looked at my white Formula 350 that has the same font decals, and in fact the O is a short squatty thing :)

That's going to look sweet.
As far as mounting the lenses. Was the original a pressure fit? I didn't quite understand how it was set up.
Any pics of it?

I'm thinking of getting some of these "ticket holders" You see these at the grocery store slid onto a glass shelf and the wide part is where the price sticker will go. I would invert it and sink a screw through the wide part into the metal sign, the other part is what I would slide the plastic lens into. I figure 6-8 of these per letter should work great

I think I am going to get some of this metal universal strapping/hanger stuff and bend it in a "U" shape inside the letters, to space the LED's closwer to the lens for a better glow.
