Hey everyone. I took advantage of one of the deals on Amazon for the Wiha 10 piece screwdriver set. Used but Acceptable. They are pretty used IMHO. Some of the handles are pretty greasy and at least one of the slotted drivers has some slight chipping. I love Wiha screwdrivers but these were $99 with tax. I have ton of drivers so...I am leaning towards returning.

If I *needed* them functional for work, they're probably just fine with a cleaning.

If I had a choice of $99 for that set, or $119 for new, which is what I am seeing, I would spring for the new.

Let the warranty availability be your tie breaker.

That's something about the online world today. Second hand values make new stuff an easy choice on mass produced goods.

Where did you see them for $119?

After close examination, all of the bladed drivers have flaking finish. Plus most of the drivers have gouges and digs out of the plastic handles. Going back. Thanks everyone. Especially for the shoe advice! :)
Good call.

Socks should match the pants, not the shoes. Time for some skin-colored socks!

If you knew the set was used before you decided to buy the set, then I say you got exactly what was advertised. If you want new, buy new.

This.

@Shocker Amazon warehouse? Looks like a "used, but acceptable" to me.

Hmmm. Interesting. I never thought about trying to warranty them. I have 30 days to figure it out. I will see what they say. Thanks for the idea!
Don't be "that guy". If you don't like them, return them. This is not a warranty issue.

I buy Amazon warehouse all the time and it's usually just damaged packaging, but I don't buy used-acceptable. You can save a lot of money doing that and still get new stuff

Same here.

I've scored some very good deals where the outer box or wrapper had damage. I think most of it is from damage at the warehouse and they just mark it down, but had 2 issues where products were definitely previous returns and not like new:

Ceiling fan. Box looked fine, internal packaging was was out back in incorrectly so most of the fan blades and the light were broken from the heavy motor. After several emails to support to make it clear what happened, Amazon insisted on a return. I documented it all and never had an issue. 2nd fan arrived fine

Steam Mop. Clearly used, not in original packaging, had water in it and was dirty. Immediate refund and new replacement sent, Amazon told me to donate or throw it away.

Like I said, if he KNEW they were used when he made the purchase, then he really can't be upset when they arrived in used condition. He received exactly what he purchased.

My gut reaction is return it, as its well used, not just scuffed from somebody trying it out and not wanting it. But that leads to the next question;
Was it sold by amazon? (definate return it. Probably returned by somebody who bought a new set to replace their old worn out screwdrivers) or sold by a third party? (in which case it is buyer beware).

I've been burned by amazon warehouse deals on a return item they where selling simply described as return, minor scratch. Turns out what I got was missing parts. I'm guessing somebody bought it for the consumables and immediately returned it claiming the scratch as the reason, amazon turns around and sells it to me for a discount for me to discover its missing parts. I return it, no hassle return other than having to bring it to the post office, but their item description only uses the original retail listing images. No images of the actual item, no mention if its been verified all contents are present. etc. You still take a chance on it.

While everyone's opinions on returns is interesting, does anyone know what's up with that horizontal line in picture at the beginning of the thread? Is that damage or is that how it's made?

I'm saying that I buy "used" stuff all the time and it is basically never actually used.

He doesn't sound incredulous or indignant. Just asking a question

The last item I bought with that description was in like new condition. I figured that I would try it again.

Yeah Yeah. They are going back. I assume if you have a truck tool that you got used to never return it for replacement either right?

So I get it that it was used. I was expecting some greasy handles (which they have) but not a set of screwdrivers that looked like they have been used daily for about 3 years. Gouged tips, peeling finish, digs on the soft handles etc. I have screwdrivers I have used for years that don't look that used.

Anyways, I am sending them back. I agree with @seber, a worn out tip is not acceptable. If the tips were solid I would just keep them but they are not.

I am not feeling screwed over, (pun) but these just need to be tossed out and not resold IMHO.

They dont provide photos, just a blanket condition statement, which is typically not that accurate anyways

Different story if he KNEW EXACTLY what it was first

And that's great! You keep getting lucky each time you spin the wheel...... But to expect it to be in basically new condition because that's the way it's been the last several times you made that type of purchase is wishful thinking. They clearly tell you (the customer) that it's a used item and when it arrives like new, you "got lucky". When a used item arrives in used condition, you "got what you ordered".

OP: if you're not happy with the item, send it back. It's Amazon, they're good about that. Someone else will buy that set in used condition and be totally satisfied with them arriving in used condition.

I'm really lost on what we are debating here

Yeah, I am not sure anymore. I wasn't expecting new, but I wasn't expecting ruined either. Moot point now as I am dropping them off for return tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

Keep it and see if they will warranty the one that’s chipped. I’d never return anything especially tools.
Not worth the chance, not sure about Wiha warranty processes... companies like CHannel lock, they still require you to pay shipping to send it in, so... might not worth a while. you can get a set of nice Husky ones for about $40 , also heavy duty.

I post a lot of the items that come up on Amazon as Used deals. Sorry you feel you got hosed on those. Just send them back and hopefully they will pop up again for $50 on the next Go.
I have bought a Lot of used SHtuff the past couple years and definitely saved a ton over retail, not just tools or shop supplies. Just do not let one item keep you from buying warehouse deals. Yes I have been screwed on occasion, but it is only a small percentage of the total. I try to post deals that are 50% off or better but when I am looking for something I usually buy at 35% or less of retail... :D
It is a **** shoot but with the amount of items posted in the warehouse deal thread there really are very few complaints. Most of the complaints are deals that seem too good... most of those are listed as 10 Packs and only one item received. Sometimes I can sniff those out just by reading the last few reviews

It's not your fault @vwpieces! You post deals and we either pass or buy. You have zero issues from me on anything. You pays yer money and takes yer chances! You posted the Bacho torx wrenches and they were like brand new but listed as used/acceptable. These are more like very used and time to get rid of some. If that is even a category. :)

And no one gets screwed here. I can just return them and all is well. Thanks man for all your posted deals!

All good, no worries here. Just trying to point out that most Deals are every bit worth the chance and don't want you to never want to "try" at one again. To some people sending it back is some grave hassle and makes them sour. But its part of the game and most are winners at it. I never hesitate on something used/acceptable, those are some of the Best deals... Might be higher chance I need to return it but I will return anything I am not happy with without hesitation.
