Kennedy Chest Restoration Question - Rivets

All,

Thinking about doing a restoration on one of my Kennedy chests, and perhaps my 1940's 14" Delta Bandsaw. To do this, name plates/lock plates and other hardware will have to come off for paint, and then put back on. The only information I can find about riveting is pop rivets, and that's not correct for either of these. The Kennedy chest uses the kind of rivets with a hollow center that rolls over to set against the metal (you can tell, I know next to nothing about riveting), and the Delta uses solid rivets.

Anyone know where I can get these types of rivets, and the tools needed to set the rivets?

A well stocked hardware store with a good selection of Midwest Fastener or Hillman drawers should have the rivets. You're looking for "Tubular Rivets".

You will need to find the tools online. A punch type tool (to spread and round the ends) and an anvil (backer for the head). Once you find the rivets, try McMaster-Carr, Grainger, Zoro, or similar sites to get the right size tools.

It will require a juggling act to get everything in place and set the rivets, but the look will be worth the effort over using pop rivets.
