And will be one more step closer here in a couple of hours. Insulation will be completed. I'll get some pics in a short. Drywall will be here this afternoon, and my drywall guy will start on it next week. The bumpout gets completed first as far as mudding, so I can get my garage halfway back together. I have so much stuff packing things up that I can hardly walk around in here.

Kevin, the first pic looks like the bump out. Are you going to remove some of the old wall to open it up?

No. I have a 5' opening in there now, and I may make a door for that. I like things to be put away instead of sitting out, but I'm not diehard OCD. My cabinets and toolboxes will be behind the walls, and that opens up my existing garage. In the addition, I MIGHT have a cabinet or two but nothing else. I'm going to get a utility cart to roll around instead of the roll-a-round boxes

Kevin: Place looks like it's warm and cozy, just in time. Winter isn't going to phase you this year. I mean, besides having less driveway to plow. And next week it's going to become bright, warm and cozy. Can't wait to see the walls and ceiling finished up.

That is awesome for you Kevin, lots of hard work to get to this point. You kept pushing when mere mortals would have caved and now you are close to having your expansion complete. Hats off to you sir!

Nice progress on the electrical and the insulation.

I like your plan for the bumpout - that will be a great place for storage.

I keep peeking in, wishing I wasn't so landlocked.
I've got 660 squares of usable garage but you just can never have enough.
I think the biggest change you're gonna enjoy is the headroom in the new space.
There's a lot of squares...up there!
Looking good Kevin...way to go!

Looks AWESOME so far ! I first thought the idea of keeping the old doors was kind of odd, but I'm liking it !!

A lot of people also thought it odd. The reason I decided to keep the doors was for one.....any metal shavings flying around, I can keep on one side of the doors. Another reason is that if I ever paint something again, I won't have overspray all over my machines, desk, computer, benches, and so on. Most of the time they will probably be up, but I always have the option of closing them when I need to.

A couple more weeks, and I can get things all back together. Lately things have gotten rather cramped in the existing garage. My rollers, and cabinets all go into the bumpout. I have three Menards boxes that roll. (11) overhead cabinets go into the bumpout, and maybe a few more will go. Only a couple will stay in the garage area. One or two for car cleaning products, one for shop towels and some cleaners. Some items will be purged because I will never use the items nor don't understand why I even kept the items. One overhead cabinet has an old sweeper motor. It works, but I don't need a small electric motor from a cheap sweeper. I also have some old computer parts that just need tossed in the trash. Here are a couple of panoramic views of the clutter I am having to endure for a little while longer.

Man, that's not clutter:D

I've always liked the idea of a small area for cabinets and boxes, just leave the open area for work and fab with the daily use things at reach.looks like the bump out will give you a lot of square footage for projects or just plain work room.

Someday I'll get a lift and a area to put in in.

Enjoying your build.

I try to use the three year plan on items through out the house but since projects can use so many left over parts the shop gets a longer plan.
It is definitely something that needs to be revisited over time.
It seems to be more trouble but we try to take most items to Salvation Army to reduce waste.
Its looking good though.

I'm doing a bit of that right now. I have a pile started for the Habitat Restore.

Everything started 5 months ago today. Well really a year and 5 months, but we won't count on the year I lost because of incompetent contractors that I kept on waiting on a price from. But 5 months ago today, I received my building permit. :rocker:

I also did some quick calculations, and the garage is now 2184 sq. ft. Our house living space is 2176 sq. ft. I think all in all, that is a fair trade with the wife.
Kevin, I just now found your thread. So I know this is a little late to comment on. Our house is only 960 sq. ft. My new garage is 1150 including the loft space. The wife was more than a little annoyed, especially after I said "my projects take up more space than yours". Thank goodness for the big couch out there.:D

Really nice Kevin!

But shouldn't the garage to house ratio be 2 to 1?

The doors are like a power de-mountable partition wall. A very good idea. You can also save on heat, when needed. Are they insulated?

^^^ You gonna do the wall mud deal?

Nope. Those days are over for me. I'll get the pen out and write the check, and that's as far as it's going to go.

Insulated doors. And the ratios SHOULD be two to one, but momma wouldn't be happy. And when momma ain't happy.................:scared:

Kevin,
Nice Olds convertible. '64 or 65? I loves me a G.M. a body.

'64 Cutlass. I bought it for the wife when her two year anniversary rolled around for being in breast cancer remission.

First coat of mud on the bumpout. The second coat goes on this afternoon. Last coat tomorrow. Then I get to paint the bumpout and I can finally start to get the garage straightened out. I have to pull the rest of y Gladiator wall cabinets down and the track, and put everything up in the bumpout. Then I have to trim the length of my bench so it will fit on each side of the door opening.

On the other hand, the drywall hangers are coming at 7:00 in the morning to hang the drywall in the addition. Two of them working, and they think that they will be done tomorrow. The bad part of it all now is the guy that finishes the drywall just started two new houses to drywall and finish. He's wanting to get the bumpout done so I can get things back together, but then I become a fill in job. He's going to try and be here everyday, even if it's only for an hour or two which I'm fine with.
