Good drywall guys always fascinate me. I have done plenty of jobs with drywall. It involves tons of sanding, but comes out as expected. I haven't mastered the minimal sand approach yet. If I am on a job and not doing the drywall I always watch the paper hangers.

+1. I've done it (on a small scale) and it came it fine, but it did involve a lot of sanding and I made a huge mess with all that damn dust. Sanding *****!

For me, it's mostly about being practical, so I'd go for the lightest color. What goes the best with your exterior color? That would be another influencing factor.

Sanding commences tomorrow, and priming commences on Sunday :rocker: My drywall guy just left and he just finished up putting some topping on a few seams and the screws. Looking forward to this as we are getting close to the end. All that will be left after the painting is to put up some trim.

No texture. I'm going to leave them smooth and probably a satin color on the bottom, and an eggshell on top.

Looks great Kevin. Don't use a satin sheen anywhere in your garage. You want as much gloss as you can get for light reflection and clean-ability (is that a word?)

I'm down to putting trim on. For now, everything is going white until I can decide on a color for the bottom half. That may take a while to decide, or I could get a wild hair up my ***, and decide tomorrow  Two days of painting just about took it's toll on me anyways. Luckily I had my neighbor Ashton to help me out part way through on priming, and then he helped me paint it. I should have bought a larger roller, but for an 18" roller, frame, and tray, I was looking at a hundred dollar bill, so I went at it with a 9" roller. That's fine for a small room in a house, but not for tall walls and a scissor truss ceiling. That is a lot of blank slate to paint :eyecrazy:

Auto....I did go with a satin sheen. It is shiny enough that it is washable, but I went with a flat on the ceiling just for a more uniform look. With the flat, I don't see any roller marks.

And just so you know, if some are curious, I went through 10 gallons of primer, and 5 gallons of paint.

I have to cut in the ceiling around the edges this morning, and then get my trim ordered. I'll have all of my trim up today, and I can call things good for a while, until I get some mud work finished up in the main garage, where I had some drywall cracks on a wall, where Craig hit the wall from outside with the mini excavator......TWICE  So I'll end up having to paint the main garage again, but I think I'm going with the same color for now.

Looks great -- nothing like a little paint to make it really look finished. (or a lot of paint in your case!)

Looks great. Does it look that good up close? Do you heat your garage year round?

I think it looks pretty good, and I've had a lot of compliments on it. Of course, that could just be people being nice because I have a lift now.

As far as heat, I don't heat it year around because it just gets too hot in the summer. I do keep the heat on in the winter though. I'll knock it down to 5o at night, then bump it up to 70 when I am out there tinkering around. So far, a small 45,000btu heater is keeping up with things, but for the addition, I bought a 75,000btu heater. Plus I have the original garage doors still up, so I can close them and only heat one side or another when I get the secondary heater hooked up. I run off of propane. So far I have one 120 gallon tank behind the garage for the 45,000. When I get ready to hook up the second heater, I will piggy back another 120 gallon tank.

Ashton and I put some trim up yesterday, and hopefully today, I can get the trim painted. Then all that is left is putting up my fluorescents on the ceiling, which may be this week. :rocker:

Kevin: garage is looking great. Have you moved your bench and tools into the bump out or sill waiting for paint to dry?

Do you own the scaffolding or did you just rent or borrow them? Must make that work up high a little easier or is your helper doing most of the high stuff where reaching is hard on your shoulder?

Getting close now and nicely done.

Tomorrow morning for a few outlets left to wire up and the garage will be ready for the final, final inspection. The lights are all up, and the pic doesn't do it justice. It is BRIGHT in there. No shadows from anything. Hopefully tomorrow, I will have things cleaned out and straightened up. The scaffolding goes back to my drywall guy, and that leaves me with a few things to put away in the main garage. I never thought I was going to get to this point. My Christmas present to me.

Well, looks like you got a very nice and functional garage there.
Now you can sit back, get a beer belly and lounge around and tinker....NOT so fast!
You got a lot to get out of storage!
Coolest and fun part is gonna be decorating the place with all your goodies you got or are going to find at future garage sales and hunts!
Lucky Devil, get to work!

Whoohoo!!!!!!:rocker: As of 9:05am the garage addition is officially complete. the inspector was here and I passed the final inspection. Now I can start hanging some picture and such up. Although I hate to put nails in a new wall.

And I did already break in the garage yesterday by putting a hole in the wall. I was taking the scaffolding down, and I didn't know that one side was not locked in. I unlatched on side and the end of the scaffolding fell and knocked a hole in the wall. It just about made me throw up right on the spot  But I got it patched with durock and just finished putting a light coat of mud on it. I'll sand it later, prime and paint, and will be as good as new.

As far as a party, by the time the weather gets nice, I probably have the addition packed full and won't have room for a party, although I'm going to try and keep that side cleaned up with minimal stuff in there.

Last pics of the finished interior other than hanging some other items on the wall(s). I still have room for my truck and the JD garden tractor inside. I never would have thought I'd ever have a garage this large. I like it.

Now I have to get the main garage primed and painted. I did get one wall primed, and the wife saw it and told me I ought to paint those walls white also. So that's a thought. It hasn't been painted white in a number of years. I do have a lot more to paint around though vs. just having a blank slate to paint. But I have all winter to get it done.

Looks good man! What's hiding under the car cover?

1998 BMW Z3 M series. Not mine, but keeping it for my neighbor this winter as they don't have a garage yet. It's the least I could do for my neighbor helping me on the garage this year.
