I found this toolbox at a farm auction, $10. Only issue other than some surface rust is the key is missing. That being said any idras on where to get a key? Also I tried looking for a new cylinder but that apears to be tricky to match.

Also any good ways to clean off the rust and not hurt the paint. Id like to try and same the patina if possible.

Nate

I would take it to a locksmith who has been in business for a long time. He might have something on hand that matches it exactly that has been sitting around his shop for many years. If not he might know someone in the locksmith trade that can help you.
BTW great score .

The actual lock part is easy to source at any locksmith. You'll need to swap over the double ended latch to the new lock though as I haven't seen any with that kind of latch.

That's an awesome box, I can't recall seeing a round top like that before! Please post it in the Heritage Thread if you get a chance, thanks!

Oh Yeah, ditto what they said. You should be able to find a locksmith to make a key or just replace the cam lock but use the old hook.

I would get a smith to make a key. If there are numbers on the lock, he can, and you don't compromise that good American box with Chinese parts, which is the only way you can get that lock, which is readily available if you go that route. I had one key made for a similar lock for $10, about twice what the crappy lock costs, but worth it to me to stay in the spirit of America.

Agreed. If the lock has a number they can make it easy through their databases ( I had one made that way) I can't tell if yours has a number.
