We have a basic schlage, and we like it. I have changed the battery (9v) once in about 6 years. It lets you know the battery is low by flashing. I haven't used my house key since we got it.

I stepped up from the basic, I use an August smart lock. Has a remote keypad, but is also smart device capable. I can lock/unlock my door from anywhere, it automatically locks at a certain interval, senses if the door is open or closed, and has geofencing so will automatically unlock when we pull in the drive. Plus it doesn't replace the outside portion of the lock set so it all still matches.

I can set codes for specific users for the keypad, or I can share the app with users.

I've had it about a year and have been very pleased with it.

Don’t remember which one we had, but the nice thing was being able to have a second code. MIL was semi-invalid so should something happen while we were away, we would give dispatch the current 911 code we had set. That way they didn’t have to break a window or the door to enter. Simple to set a new code when we got home. Well worth installing one on a door where there might be a need for emergency access and the resident not be able to get to or open the door.

I put a cheap TruBolt on the man door at the shop.

Works fine, even at sub zero temperatures.

Also have one on the house. Don’t remember the brand, but it takes a Kwikset key. It’s probably four years old and still works well too.

I have the basic Schlage ones for a while now and never had an issue, Batteries seem to last way longer than they claim. Well worth it to not have to carry a key.

I am also using the Schlage locks, but with Z-Wave so they are integrated into my home automation system. Even though they are a tad finicky pairing to the system, once that's done they are rock solid and battery life is incredible!

We have the same lock onewheat linked. Had it in the previous two houses. We just moved to a new house two weeks ago and I bought three of them. Installed one the 2nd day here. While using the code to unlock is the main advantage another is locking it as you leave. Just hit the small button top center, twist the knob and it's locked. I just realized we are in our 10th year with these.

I now have 5 of these in use. I just replaced the battery on the first one I installed 7 years ago. They are awesome!

I would not get these if you experience cold weather.

We have 4 of these on the house and they all suffer from issues when the temp is -20 or below. So unreliable that we have left the doors unlocked or carry a key. I have replaced all 4 under warranty and they still have issues.

Yeah I have lots of problems with Schlages icing up too both dead bolts and keypad door locks thankfully it never seems to affect all the locks at once.

-20° F? What the hell? Do you live in Antarctica? Nope - north of Knoxville on a lake that doesn't ever freeze. It seldom even gets into the +20's. They work great for me.

My oldest daughter has two keypad locks, one for the back door and one fro the front door, and she likes them a lot. She carries a key with her and uses it quite a bit, but if she should happen to forget her key she can still get in the house. She has her house key on her car keys but she has, on occasion, left her car keys in the house and she couldn't get back into the house to get them. With the keypad she can still get into the house to get her keys.

I had a Kwickset one in my old studio (similar to https://www.homedepot.com/p/Kwikset...SmartKey-Security-909-15-SMT-CP-SCR/205597290 )

I loved it because I didn't have to have a key with me going from the house, out 30 steps to the studio. However make sure you either change the battery when you notice the mechanism started to get slow or remember where you put the key.

Yeah, I have Kwiksets at a rental back east...use more batteries than I can keep stocked. Will be replacing with Schlage this summer.
