The cabinets were on ebay, the seller is a surplus warehouse. They are handling the shipping. Spoke to them this afternoon and the said they are putting them on 5 pallets. Should get picked up tomorrow. Shipping was a lot. But, I couldn't take off work, drive down there and rent a u-haul for what it cost to ship. I add the shipping into the whole project and divide it by 15. That's what each cabinet cost me. Not that bad when you look at it that way. Lol Not a super good deal but I couldn't build them for that and it's probably what I would pay to get them 1 at a time.Killinger: nice find on the cabinets and hope shipping doesn't cost too much. i use Fastenal for big items, but you'd need somebody at the auction to pallet them up and drop them off at a Fastenal store or warehouse.
i really like your knives and leatherwork too. Did you invent the logo and did you make the stamp or have it made with the K (USA)?
Yes. I hand stich everything. I do have an old industrial singer that I'm going to upgrade the motor on and clean up. (Have all the parts just not the time) but it won't do sheaths. Need a walking foot for the thick stuff. I plan on making bags, tool rolls, shop aprons and anything else I can dream up once I get the singer going. Those knives are super nice, love the leather work too but I didn't see a machine in your mancave/leather shop, are you hand sewing those?![]()

Thanks! I like to make the videos as kinda a diary. What's going on in my life at the time. Fun to go back and watch them.Just catching up on your thread K. Awesome work. I did get to watch a couple of videos you have up on youtube. You have something going on there, keep up the great work.

Thanks!Nice shop, awesome leather work; something I wanted to get into but never had the time to dedicate when doing knives.
Do you know what those cabinets were used for initially? I've seen them around here and there from time to time. The no drawer slides and depth/width kinda put me off in my small space. Heavy duty no doubt, just curious, probably something industrial in the 40's?![]()

Steel would be awesome! My budget wouldn't allow it at this time thou. This will be phase 1. I'll get them set up in a configuration that works in my current shop and use wood for the frame and top. (This will make sense once I start on it) some day when I move to a permanent house and shop I will begin phase 2. Which will be a steel base and frame with either a butcher block counter top or steel. We will see.Killinger: happy to see the cabinets made it to your driveway. also pretty cool that some of the drawers are full of new old stock and probaby military grade too.
i'd love to see a 1/4 inch or thicker steel bench top on top of those instead of the warping pressboard. of course any nice old wood or maybe 1/8 inch stainless will look great too.
I've found commercial doors pulled out of buildings when remodeling make awesome doors if you can make a deal with the contractor or check their dumpsters. usually the interior doors are 8 x 3 foot and 2 inch thick fire rated doors and some have some nice cherry veneer on them.
i own a AMT pattern makers vise that might have the support arm you are looking for if you need measurements just ask. not sure a similar one would work for your old vise, but it might.
great find on the cabinets.
