Great shop and craftsmanship! Can't wait to see what you build next and see how your shop looks once you get those cabinets.

Killinger: nice find on the cabinets and hope shipping doesn't cost too much. i use Fastenal for big items, but you'd need somebody at the auction to pallet them up and drop them off at a Fastenal store or warehouse.

i really like your knives and leatherwork too. Did you invent the logo and did you make the stamp or have it made with the K (USA)?

The cabinets were on ebay, the seller is a surplus warehouse. They are handling the shipping. Spoke to them this afternoon and the said they are putting them on 5 pallets. Should get picked up tomorrow. Shipping was a lot. But, I couldn't take off work, drive down there and rent a u-haul for what it cost to ship. I add the shipping into the whole project and divide it by 15. That's what each cabinet cost me. Not that bad when you look at it that way. Lol Not a super good deal but I couldn't build them for that and it's probably what I would pay to get them 1 at a time.

The logos I had help in designing. The one for leather was made for me. The one for the steel is an etch. Guy makes the stencials fir me and I etch the knives with a machine I have here. The K on the axe handles is just an upper case old English font. It was made for me as well. I just heat it up and burn it in.

Those knives are super nice, love the leather work too but I didn't see a machine in your mancave/leather shop, are you hand sewing those?

Yes. I hand stich everything. I do have an old industrial singer that I'm going to upgrade the motor on and clean up. (Have all the parts just not the time) but it won't do sheaths. Need a walking foot for the thick stuff. I plan on making bags, tool rolls, shop aprons and anything else I can dream up once I get the singer going.

I do auto upholstery so I have a great appreciation of the work you do by hand, can't wait to see what you'll turn out with a capable machine!

Wow! I just stumbled on this thread; I'm so glad you brought it back from the dead! I've never seen wall tile like that on a residential garage. That looks incredible. So I far I really like what I see. It seems you have an appreciation for fine craftsmanship. The knives and sheaths look great; I can't wait to see what comes out of the forges.

That's amazing stitch work that you do. I wish I knew how to stich or see leather so I can do my truck seats one day.

I started doing a little series on my YouTube channel called flea market finds. Pretty much me just talking about treasures I find. Got 2 videos up now, be posting more soon. You can find my channel by searching killinger on youtube. Also if your on a computer link in my sing line. If you Google killinger blades a lot of videos on my knives pop up, you can then follow them to my channel and find the flea market videos that way. I have 114? Videos on my channel with all kinds of stuff. I'll link my videos in next time I'm on a computer.

My cabinets should arrive on the 22nd!!! I have no idea where I'm going to put them untill I get the shop cleared out. Need to go get some 2x4 and plywood for the base and tops. Big project! This will be phase 1. Phase 2 will be later on when I buy a house and get a welder. Hopefully a bigger shop! Also my 2 vises should arrive this week! Big week! Need to get back to some leather work and knife work so I can fund some of these projects! I'll share the knife and leather work for anyone who cares to see.
That's it for now! Thanks for looking!

Small delay on the cabinets, not sure when I will get them? Looking like Monday now. They aren't far from my house but the fright company transfer them to an agent,(I'm guessing for a lift gate) and they are taking their time. If I still had my truck I would go get my buddies trailer and go get them. I had plans of setting them up this weekend!

Next year I'm getting another truck and a nice trailer. I miss my truck already and it's only been a month!!!

Flea market fresh! Just picked this Columbian No. 3a pattern makers vise up today. It's a very big boy! Guy has been telling me about it all year. Finally brought it in. Just spent 5 mins with kroil oil and everything is working properly! It is missing the stabilizer attachment if anyone has an idea where one might find that I would be interested. Paid $150 if you must know. That's cheap for ohio.

Nice shop, awesome leather work; something I wanted to get into but never had the time to dedicate when doing knives.

Do you know what those cabinets were used for initially? I've seen them around here and there from time to time. The no drawer slides and depth/width kinda put me off in my small space. Heavy duty no doubt, just curious, probably something industrial in the 40's? :dunno:

Thanks!
I'm not 100% on what they used them for? I think they were inside road vehicles for tool storage? Also see one in our supply room at the armory. They use it for tools there as well.

Well today is the big day! Cabinets arrived! Just got them off the pallets and sorted out. Now I have to figure out how to cram them in my shop untill I get a chance to set them up.

2 of the cabinets have the small drawers. Perfect for hardware!

Some of the cabinets were full of hardware. This is just a sample of what I need to sort out.

Killinger: happy to see the cabinets made it to your driveway. also pretty cool that some of the drawers are full of new old stock and probaby military grade too.

i'd love to see a 1/4 inch or thicker steel bench top on top of those instead of the warping pressboard. of course any nice old wood or maybe 1/8 inch stainless will look great too.

I've found commercial doors pulled out of buildings when remodeling make awesome doors if you can make a deal with the contractor or check their dumpsters. usually the interior doors are 8 x 3 foot and 2 inch thick fire rated doors and some have some nice cherry veneer on them.

i own a AMT pattern makers vise that might have the support arm you are looking for if you need measurements just ask. not sure a similar one would work for your old vise, but it might.

great find on the cabinets.

Steel would be awesome! My budget wouldn't allow it at this time thou. This will be phase 1. I'll get them set up in a configuration that works in my current shop and use wood for the frame and top. (This will make sense once I start on it) some day when I move to a permanent house and shop I will begin phase 2. Which will be a steel base and frame with either a butcher block counter top or steel. We will see.

I think I have the pattern makers vise worked out but thank you! I will get in touch if i run into a snag.

Killinger: im hoping you know i meant the thick heavy commercial doors would make great bench tops if you can find some. I used the old door hole and put them in the back for wires.

Good luck

Got the first row of cabinets mocked up. It will be 176" long. Removed all the old tops and strightend metal on one's that needed it. Gonna start on the base now. This will be the longest run. All the rest will be 3 or lest.

Don't listen to Drives, they look horrible, I think you should cut your losses and sell them to me, I'll properly dispose of them for you.

Killinger: is that 3 pieces of 3/4 inch plywood or a 3/4 inch plywood on top of some other type of wood. looking good and i'm betting those cabinets are not light so hopefully you won't be too sore tomorrow.

keep taking pictures and loving the look of those old cabinets. i've got a drawer of old RR spikes and files and maybe we can exchange a few flat rate boxes for some of those nuts and bolts you might not need?
