1" can be tricky to bend. It has to be a steady foot pressure, to much, and the bender will want to lift off the ground before the 90 is bent and this will cause a kink.

I finally got a half decent bend. A little flattening but usable. The above quote made something click in my mind. For this bend I focused on keeping pressure to keep the bender on the floor at the point of the bend. In previous attempts, after about 45 degrees, downward pressure on the foot post can lever the bender up early.

Conduit may also be more difficult than average to bend. I'm not a pro by any means but I've done 10s of bends with this bender and never thought about it.

Thanks for the help everyone especially Terry!IMG_20200421_220354.jpg

If you have a long enough piece (longer than the bender handle) try flipping the bender over so the shoe is pointing up. The extra leverage on the longer pieces makes it a breeze... only issue is having enough ceiling clearance to get the free end of the EMT high enough so the angle of the dangle doesn't kick the handle of the bender out.

I've done that before but that also leads to a kink on this EMT.

After making a bunch of bends an getting some ok ones but still a lot of flattening I finally got some new EMT. First two bends pretty much spot on. Same operator, same bender so I'm blaming that old EMT. Thanks for everyone's help. I definitely learned something and probably improved my technique.IMG_20200508_212445.jpeg
