What's the verdict on this set? Tired of home improvement store junk and want to step up in quality without breaking the bank.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DRVM38X/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Home Depot stocks them so they are sold in home improvement stores. It is made overseas. I've seen it and looked at reviews but haven't used it. Some reviews have complained about the grip slipping down the underlying plastic. Some reviews have complained about soft bits. I prefer fixed precision drivers.

Which sizes and types do you need?

I have a Wiha set that looks similar that has served me well for a very long time. I'd recommend looking at those too.

I never know exactly what I might need. That's why I was looking at this set.

You could get the set and replace the most used/worn/broken with higher quality fixed screwdrivers from Wera or Wiha.

Deals are usually very common... but these are odd times and the supply chain is disrupted causing some prices to creep up. Amazon has a mixed set with a nylon case for $36. --> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009ODV0PI/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I have one. Used it yesterday on a laptop computer in fact. As long as the bits or shaft will fit in the recess it will work for you. The case is very nice. The bits are pretty long. The shaft can be reversed for extra length. I'd recommend the set.

I use this one at work (A/C Maintenance) and it's quick when changing bits, etc.
"Wera model 5073661002. I'm trying to get my posts up to 5 so I can post links, good grief. Glad to be here though!

Havent't tried that Klien set but I did pick up two of these Husky precision sets over the holidays at HD. Bits are held in the handle by magnets and the case itself has embedded strips of magnets to hold the bits in their slots.

For what I have used them for so far they have been holding up great.

Same here. Would highly recommend WIHA, the set was not expensive for the very high quality received.

I have the older Klein 6-in-1 precision screwdrivers that are similar in style. They're pretty good quality. Not quite on par with the dedicated Wera precision drivers, but they're good tools. No issues with the rubber grip slipping on mine.

My verdict is, pass.

I bought this set on a Black Friday deal, because I wanted to try the handle. Unfortunately, the bits are not standard 4mm hex. They are a little smaller, and spin in a standard micro-bit handle (Wiha/Wera/Felo/Vessel/Anex/iFixit). Likewise, normal micro bits are too big for the Klein handle.

12/01/2021 UPDATE
In the original version of this post I noted Haus of Tools had not published a negative review of this set, following an opinion statement partially related to that conduct. Recently an agent from Haus of Tools contacted me to say the review was eventually published at some point after I originally posted. Their agent could not confirm the date of publication when directly asked; for all I know it was published right before the agent emailed me.

The agent's excuse for their delay in publication was the “volume of orders and reviews [emph. added] we get.” Interestingly, their site has a central repository all reviews they've published: https://hausoftools.com/pages/customer-reviews. They appear to have published a total of 621 reviews. According to ICANN’s domain registry lookup, EIO first registered the domain name hausoftools.com in July 2017. While I do not know when the site opened for business, the relevant order was placed around a year ago and shipped from EIO, so the most generous interpretation of their review publication volume is something under 2 reviews a day.

Their agent further asserted, "We do publish even bad reviews on products because we do want our customers to voice their legitimate opinions" and "we publish even negative [reviews] if they are relevant.” See screenshot below tallying their 621 published reviews by star rating.

Haus of Tools review tally by star, 12-01-2021.png

So ~0.6% (4 of 621) reviews they’ve published for all products are 1 or 2 star, while over 88% (551 of 621) are 5 star. I guess the "4.8" above indicates the average star rating of published reviews, though that is not clear.

Their agent’s initial email to me also included the following text I perceived as a thinly veiled legal threat intended to chill expression of opinion: "causing us damages in the form of lost sales…” The agent also repeatedly attempted to gaslight me with the irrelevant observation that my original post “is not true" even though the agent admitted "we had published [the review] sometime later” and thus the facts in my post were absolutely true when written.

I've owned and used various Klein micro screwdrivers and systems. I would say they're all "pretty good", but not excellent.

Wiha and Wera are really the top dogs in that category. They're a little more expensive than Klein, but they are a more refined and quality product. All of the Klein offerings just don't seem as polished as they should be. Better than cheaper homeowner grade sets for sure, but not quite the professional quality that you get from Wiha and Wera.

That Klein is kind of ugly, no?
For only twice the money...

I do electronics work, so i deal with precision drivers daily. the Wera kraftform drivers are the absolute finest i've used, i don't bother with anything else anymore. they are only marginally more expensive than big box store junk. no reason not too.

I bought a Wiha System 4 handle and a set of Torx bits one time because I needed micro Torx and thought the set was probably the best for my situation. When I started looking at other bits and bit sets in that series I realized I probably bought into something without enough research. They are quite pricey.

Another vote for Wiha, but it is interesting to hear that Mgraves235 thinks Wera are the best. I may have to try them sometime.

Both are excellent. IMO it’s a matter of handle design preference. Wera’s elicits love/hate reactions. I’m on the “love” side personally but as always on matters of taste personal experimentation is best.

Another vote for the Wera fixed blade set as linked above by measuredtwice

Another vote for Wera. Wera's handles are superior. They actually put a lot of thought into the design/shape.

It's like the handle is an automatic transmission. If you want high torque you hold it at the hump, if you want high speed you hold it at the slender part of the handle. In addition the swivel cap is big and rests comfortably in your palm and rotates smooth as silk.

Wiha is good for having the broadest offering but Wera has the superior design.

As an aside, the seller from whom I bought it, "Haus of Tools" (a dba for EIO) lacks integrity. They did not publish my 2-star review pointing out the needless proprietary bit size and lack of PZ bits.
Do others have experience with Haus of tools too?
Wanted to place an order but JBH‘s post got me thinking.

I love Klein full size screwdrivers, but for precision drivers, Wiha is my go-to brand. Standalone drivers are better, since they can reach deeply recessed screws, but bit drivers have their place. Most use 4mm bits, whereas this Klein set uses smaller bits, meaning they are not interchangeable with other sets.
