Coolio, one more question.
What do you think of :
NWS 166-69-250
NWS 1661-69-250 Quattrogrip
I have some tools already from NWS but I've recently purchase the Knipex 86 05 250 wrench and the PVC cutter 86 05 250... I've been VERY impressed by the overall build quality.
I have a this at the moment:
... which is a PITA when it comes to adjust it to different widths.
The NWS Quattro grips are nice. I noticed a couple things though.
They have teeth covering the entirety of both top and bottom jaw. These teeth are non directional, as in they will tighten and loosen with the same gripping power without having to flip your pliers around. The idea is they give you four points of contact on your workpiece. This is not always true... In most situations with different sized diameter pipes I was only able to achieve 3 points of contact. Only 3 sets of teeth actually bit down on said pipe. These pliers are also not self locking, a feature that their tooth pattern will not allow.
I think the self locking ability of the knipex pliers is inherited, thanks to the pipe wrench style tooth design.
Unlike the Quattro grips, the knipex alligator and cobra pliers teeth are directional...you have bite down locking power in only one direction, tightening lets say. If you wish to now loosen your workpiece then you would have to take your pliers off and flip them around so that your handles are pointed away from you. Note these knipex pliers only boast two sets of teeth, save the small crimping teeth in the back, I believe.
I love my nws made Klein's, which are a Quattro grips clone, but if I really want to bite down and turn a pipe that won't budge, the knipex are the go to, or even the Irwin groove locks, which also self lock and bite down like a pit bull. Channellock grip locks are another good choice.
Hope this helps.
