Does anybody have experience getting warranty service from Knipex? I have a set of needle nose pliers with very little use that the grips have started to crack. I am the original purchaser, but can not prove it. Do you guys think I am going to have any issues?

The Germans will expect that you follow the rules and provide proof of purchase .

Not very, maybe a few years.

****. I hate playing games with warranties. I bought the damn thing, it says Knipex on it, its grips split, gimme a new one! That is one thing I have to give Sears credit for in the old days and, to a lesser extent, Harbor Freight these days.

Yeah I really don't think they'll cover that.. when you said almost new I thought a month or two. That is wear n tear, not product failure. Put some tape on it

They are the red and blue handled ones. I have owned them for a little while, but have used them less than a handful of times. They are literally like new. Oh well, it will be what it will be. It is just sad that the grips on ChiCom Craftsman pliers used for ages lasted longer than the grips on this particular pair of Knipex. All of my other sets of Knipex are perfectly fine. I must have just got a bad one.

Send them in and get a tracking number. The worst that can happen is they'll send them back to you. There should be a USA office somewhere.

Those Germans are pretty proud of their tools. They're going to think any discrepancy is the fault of the end user. It would be better if they had the tool sitting in front of them.

You won't know until you inquire with them. What's the worst they can do to you? Send Guido and Noneck to teach you a lesson about bothering to make a warranty claim?

Contact them.

Grips that are starting to crack is failure of materials, not wear and tear.

Call them first, but regardless you still need to send them in.

I actually had more bad experiences with Sears than good ones. That was in the 90's and 00's, not sure how they were before that.

I warrantied some Knipex pliers late last year. I didn't think I was abusing them but I was gripping something with significant pressure and the needle nose ends splayed out. I looked on the Knipex website, emailed the local rep, described the issue and sent a picture. I got confirmation of warranty before I sent them for replacement. I paid shipping to a neighboring town and got a new pair back a few weeks later.

Find your rep, email them, and see what they can do for you. I am the original owner, but I wasn't asked for proof of purchase, just the model number.

I'd find their U.S. distributor (in Illinois or Indiana iirc) and try at the very least. I spoke with a very nice lady there via email a couple of years ago about getting a toolbox decal. She was very helpful and sent me out several stickers and window clings. A pleasant experience overall.

Yes, had some needle nose where the jaws didn't close all the way. I emailed Knipex US with an image and they replaced them without issue. No proof of purchase was needed but YMMV.
